Strange idle screw and tps adjustment question; Putting them on a different engine.

I know how to properly adjust both the tps and the idle screw and at one time had them both adjusted correctly.
Then my engine lost compression... and lost more compression.
I had to have the idle screw turned all the way to the right? (up all the way)
And the tps I forgot which but I know it is way out of adjustment right now.
I was wondering if anyone had a guess of how to adjust these that way I don't start my car up and have it idle at 4,000rpm. (At one time I had my s4 idling at 2,300rpm)

umm your car has to be warmed up to adjust the tps. As for the idle screw same procedure, your car has to be warmed up IIRC

I know they are supposed to be warmed up but what I'm saying is that they are no where near in a position to start a car that has compression and injectors that aren't leaking.
Is there a way to adjust to factory settings just by saying, "tighten all the way and then turn left five full turns." or something of the like.

No there is no such procedure anywhere.

Last time I looked I can start any of my cars with the TPS disconnected. It's been a while but that is my memory. So I come to the conclusion, correct or not, that the engine will start up just fine with the TPS disconnected. Idle is another topic. It will idle a slight bit crummy 'cause the ECU has defaulted to a setting other than idle input.

The screw on the TPS is not a idle speed screw in any way.......unless you screw it in ALL the way which forces the linkage to open the throttle plates a bit. Not the way to do business.

On my car, if i am standing in the front facing rear and adjusting idle screw (with car warmed up and jumper wire in place) if the idle is screwed all the way clockwise it is at lowest idle. My car is set about 1 1/2 turns counter clockwise to idle at approx. 800.

Pretty sure every car is different but i believe thats the type of awnser you are looking for?

Also (with car warmed up and.jumper wire in) the tps needs to be set at 1 volt as per spec. in the fsm.

I will say this though, regardless of my awnser here, it may or may not work for you. I am fairly new on rotarys. So if i am incorrect, listen to HAILERS advice over mine. He definitly knows his stuff better than i do, along with other established members here.

I cant edit my post, so i must add that i just noticed that your name includes "90gxl" in it so that may make my post completely wrong since yours is an s5 and what worked on my s4 may be completely different on an s5.

Tightening the screw should lower the rpm and vice versa.

I think the first step would be to find out what you THINK the idle screw and TPS screw are (location), and go from there.

The idle screw is the screw on the throttle body. The other one is on the TPS so... that is where it is?

I know that it isn't an actual procedure it was just a hypothetical question as mine are both set to keep an engine running that had near no compression. The TPS does adjust the idle and what you described is more or less where it is set right now.

This is what I was trying to figure out. Just where everybody has there settings at so I know my engine won't try to idle 2k since it hasn't ran in a few years.

Ground initial set connector, adjust idle to 750rpm, adjust TPS. done.
