Strange exaust ideas...
I need a new cat-bact setup. I recently blew the seam on the right muffler completely apart, after that the muffler broke off of the pipe. I was wondering if I could see anything in gains or losses of power by going single pipe. I was going to cut off everything after the cat and have the stock exit diameter of the cat carried back to a muffler on the left. I'm just trying to get out of a noise ticket, and wondered if this'll be quiet enough(well, also any power changes). Anyway, any ideas on muffler choices, or if I should carry it out on the right instead of the left? I just see so many drifters do it this way, I figured there was a reason. Any help is greatly appreciated.

well the lnly way your gonna get more power is if you take the cats off. putting new pipes after the cats wont do much. i took em both off and replaced em with an exhaust i made. it is a lil louder but not enough to alert the fuzz. if you replace the header as well you will definately feel a power increase.

I'm still trying to get around a noise ticket, though. Power isn't main goal, quieter than having my right muffler completely severed AND blown apart is. Just wondered if a single pipe will be enough.

yes a single pipe with a muffler should be enough. you could just fabticate a y-pipe and a mufdfler for the right side. i built my own complete echaust from the header to the mufflers. well they arent really mufflers, more like resonators.

With an N/A car, you're not going to require the flow that a large single offers... If you're looking for a subdued, yet aggressive sounding street legal exhaust setup, look no further than Racing Beat... A large single exhaust on an N/A car will sound tinny and very loud... Racing Beat catback FTW!

i have an 86' n/a GXL i am running Racing Beat downpipe and presilencer; and Apexi N1 dual muffler cat back. it is a very loud exhaust . its deep sounding . rumbuly sounding. doing just a cat back if you did the same cat-back it would be a little louder than stock. thats if you kept the cats in place. but i am not sure how it would sound since i have not run this cat-back system with cats.

Right now, imagine a stock exaust with the right muffler cut off. That's how loud I'm at. I want it to get the cops off of my tail about the level of noise, but can't really afford a full cat-back with y-pipe and new mufflers. I don't care if it sounds like crap, as long as it's quiet. How can I achieve this? Will a single pipe be quiet enough?

just go to a cheap-o muffler shop.
the ones around here would fix that for like $60.
or get a stock replacement muffler from farm king for $35, and weld it on yourself.

I'm still wondering if a single will be quiet enough to pass a police noise test (well, all he does is make a personal judgement really). I am almost positive that it'll be quieter than what I have now, but still. If it would, then that'd be what I'd get, but if not then i'll just fix it. I mean, the only reason he said it was too loud was to 1.)pull me over and 2.)he was on a bike with an 3/4 helmet on. Oh, did i mention I live in Michigan, right in the middle of GM country? LOL!
