storage buckets lights
So my cars a 86 base model, it didn't come with the storage bins, but I got some the other day and put them in. The connector to the lights is in there, I plugged it in and the lights don't work.
I pulled them out check the bulbs, they work, but the wiring seems to be discontinuous or something as they don't come on when I use the wires only when I take the bulb out and directly link it to a battery. So it could be just the wiring, but I don't think so because I checked the power in the connector and with out the ignition on its zero volts and with the ignition on its like some low number in mV, which doesn't seem near what you'd expect. So do they only work if the ignition is on (wouldn't make any sense) or is there some disconnect somewhere? Has anyone else had this issue, could it be related to my car not having the bins stock?
If it is that there is a problem with the car wiring is it worth my time to fix, I'd like to have them work, but I'm not sure I want to spend too much time on them.

My bin lights ('88) only come on if the bin lid is open AND the headlight switch is either in the parking lights or headlights on position. Ignition key position does not matter. Pretty sure this is the standard stock arrangement since my S5 ('90) was the same.
This is kinda weird because you'd think you would never have the storage bins open when your headlights are on since presumably the car would be in motion. I guess the lights are designed for the convenience of your passenger at night (?)

Thanks guys, got them working. Seriously I don't know what Mazda was thinking on this one though, why not just allow them to come on all the time like the dome lights when the doors are opened?
