stock gauges, black face and white numerals

Is it possible to convert the stock instruments from amber numerals to white while keeping the black face? I'd like to get rid of the amber color and do something that will match my VDO gauges, which are black face, white numerals with red/orange pointer and green backlight.

Anyone got any ideas?

The gauges appear to be made from translucent orange plastic painted black. The only way I can think of to make the charaters look white during the day and green at night would be to print new gauges onto translucent white plastic and put green caps on the illumination bulbs. You'd need to scan the gauge faces at very high resolution and then find someone who can print the correct type of ink onto plastic.
