Stock fog light wiring

I've looked in my hanes manual for the wiring of the stock S5 fog lights but it doesn't have that circuit. Does anyone know which wire goes to power? There are light green and green wires to it. I'd just turn on the lights and find out but it doesn't have a battery in it. I'm going to run the lights to the ignition circuit so I can have them on whenever I want and not just when the low beams are on. As always, thanks for any help.

I've looked over the online FSM's and I don't think there is a schematic for the fog light power so, has anyone hooked their fog lights to ignition power? If not, well at least I'll be the first.

elaborate a little on the "ignition" aspect. Do you want them to come on when you turn the key? or do you want them to come on via switch, after key is turned?

I want to be able to switch them on even without the headlights being on. They provide so little illumination that I figure their best use (for me anyway) is to have them on when I have the park lights on at dusk or dawn. It would be cool (to me anyway) to have the headlights down but still have illumination for accident avoidance and perhaps rain and fog situations.

So you want the fog lights to still work off of the factory switch correct? And you want them ONLY to turn on if the ignition is on? If thats the case, its really pretty simple. Open your small square console where the switch is located. theres 3 wires if i remember correctly. I spliced the constant + wire from my mirror switch into the headlight feed for the fog light switch.

I cant remember the wire colors, Id go check for ya, but its pooring rain outside

But, what this will do is, whenever your turn your key, theres power for the fog lights. weather your highbeams are on, or your headlights and/or daytime running lights are on. Also you wont forget to turn them off when you turn the car off.

If you search around theres a **** load of threads about exactly this.

Hope this helped ya!

Cool, I hadn't thought about the mirror switch power. As far as checking, I've checked the online factory manuals but not the archives. Oops! Thanks for the idea anyway.

The S5 headlight and fog light wiring diagram is here:

You'd need to put 12V to the red/black wire at the fog light switch, preferably from an ignition-switched source so you didn't accidently leave them on.

Easier would be to turn the headlights into DRL's like this:

Thanx for clearing up the wire colors. But i have a question for you: Do you refer to the FSM and stuff like that for the little random stuff like this? Or do you just magicaly remember what EVERY wire is and does, its crazy to me, seems like you always have the correct answer. Its good stuff!

I access the forum on my computer. I have full 88, 89 and 94 FSM's on my computer. I'm sure you can put two and two together.
