Stereo POWERWIRES- Where did they go????????

I bought my new 87 n/a rx7 and the guy before me must have removed the stock stereo. Anyways I got to hook up my sony deck and I dont see power wires anywhere for it. Does anyone know where they went, or where else i might be able to get power wires from.

Someone suggested i just hook 2 wires from my battery and use that as my power, but isnt a car battery straight too much power for a deck??

Wires from the battery would "work", but it would always be on...you would have to manually turn it of.......

er...wait.. is both the constant +12 and switched +12 missing? I don't remember the colours...

you can hook either up to your battery.. the constant +12 would be fine.. the switched +12 would cause it to always be on, and may drain your battery over time.

The wires probally were cut off short, and just shoved up in there somewhere. Id look for em, but if you know not what your doing, might be an idea to have a pro do it Been installing car stereos professionally for 12 years, I have seen some DIY (do it yourself) stuff end up with a fried deck or speakers or even car. Good RULE of thumb, when running any wires directly to the battery is place an inline fuse on the wire at least 6 inches from the battery, fuse it with the same value as the circuit that you are running is (IE 18AWG wire for deck , 10-15A, 10AWG for amp or whatever 20-30, 8 AWG for bigger amp 40-60 AMP etc) Actually anytime contacting a + lead ALWAYS fuse it right were you do it! This protects the wire in the event of a short, and instead of frying the wire and inevitabley the car it just pops the fuse...

And by the way 12V is 12 volts, dont matter on wiring it straight to the battery. I wouldnt personally tho (too much damn work LOL), just find them at the dash or worse case go to the fuse box

Good luck!

If you have wires there I would suggest getting a voltmeter and finding the right wires.

Mikes right! Find the wires.

If you have to get new ones (which I wouldn't, I'd find the right ones) then go to the ignition switch wires. But again as mike said, make sure you fuse within 6 inches of your connection.
