steering lock q....searched

ok, the ignition wont turn past acc, so I jiggle the steering wheel to get it unlocked. It will turn stop to stop in either direction, of course locking in the middle. My problem is that the ignition acts as if the steering lock is on when the its not. Still wont turn even at full steering to either direction. Ive moved that steering wheel in every direction, and the key just wont turn. Any ideas?

So, obviously there is enough info on how to replace the ignition. But is there any links on how to remove/replace the steering lock mechanism? Thanks for your help icemark

One way to remove the steering interlock is to disassemble the interlock and reassemble the interlock with the steering shaft covered by a thin sheet of aluminum - like a soda can.

My race car can use the ignition switch as normal but the wheel will not lock in any position regardless of whether the key is in or out.
