Steering issues

This problem started a couple of weeks ago and is getting progressivly worse.
When trying to turn the steering randomly locks for a second or to. It kind of feels like I'm pushing against some thing. It started out mostly getting out of a car park, slow tight corners, but now I get it every now and then when changing lanes at around 60 kmph. car temp nor outside temp (as it is middle of summer here) does not seem to make a difference. One of my front bearings was shot and I've had both replaced, but the problems still there. Is there anything I can check visually?

Jack the car up and swing the steering wheel side to side to see if you can feel the tight spot. If you can, disconnect the tie rod ends and swing it again to see if you can still feel the spot. If you can I say it's in the rack or one of the joint assemblies.

I'll give it a go thanks... I have noticed that it is at random, but once it goes, it does not come back for a good 10/20 minutes.
