Starting rebuild, some Q's indentifying parts.
Howdy all,
Just started opening up my 6-port 13b motor today, but couldn't get my 54mm nut until tomorrow so the final tear down will be done tomorrow morning.
So far with just the front cover off the motor appears to be in excellent condition (except for the obvious shat apex seal on the rear rotor
) but the oil pump and counter weight and associated crap there looks brand new!
I'll get some pics up hopeully tomorrow of all the parts.
Now for some questions..
I bought the engine not knowing much about it since the guy i bought it off had no idea about its history either. So i'm here trying to figure what sreies it was from..
It was in an rx-3, so it had a 12a front cover on it to bolt onto the standard crossmember, also has a sump without the motor mount holes (assuming rx-4 stlye 13b sump?) now for the strange part!! the center iron does NOT have the holes for the motor mount bolts to go into
also this center iron does not have an EGR, has studs on both sides of it as if for engine mounts..
Now just by the process of elimination im guessing this center iron is off possibly a USA spec S3? (which would be very strange since im in australia..) or is it possibly a S6 center iron???
now the rotor housings have writting on the top of them "Hiroshima blah blah mazda blah etc..) BUT these are not raised at all like on my S4 center Iron?
Is there some way i can tell what series this motor is easily? I heard something about the coolant temp sensor thread just near the oil filter is different between series?
I'll get some pics up tomorrow for you guys, might be of more help
