starter problems

ok, this has sort of got me a little confused. the starter signal cable is reading 14V when the car is in the run position, which is weird for one, but it is also reading 14V in the start postion which is normal i would think, but ether way the starter motor isnt cranking at all. so i was thinking it could be the solonoid but that still doesnt explain why that wires reading 14v in the run position....i need to sleep

Clutch bypass switch? Does it make a click sound when you try to crank?

What are you calling the "signal" wire? The run from the ignition switch? If so, when the key is turned and the solenoid energizes, the voltage should fall to 0 (because the circuit is grounded now). If the voltage stays the same (as long as you're reading it before the solenoid) as the key is turned, then the component (in this case the solenoid) isn't energizing...

Make any sense???

ya, the wire running from the ignition into the starter solenoid, and i didnt get to test it pluged in, but what im wondering is why its showing anything above 0 volts with it in the "run" position, which would be the position before the start position, or all the way over. i would think that i would only see voltage when the key would be in the start position.

cool, that was more so the answer i was looking for, im sure the solenoid is ether bad or just stuck, it has been a few years since it has been engaged. i'll take it to advanced tomarrow and have it tested and replace if needed.
