Starter Problem, I Think. (Please help me!!)

Well, Today my RX-7 started something new. It started up fine I drove it to my friends house.
I turned it off and talked for about 10 minutes.
Came back outside, sat back inside. Pushed in the clutch, turned the Key, I hear the fuel pump, but the starter doesnt do a damn thing. Okay, Try it a few more times, nothing. So, I pushed started the car. It ran fine. Went and parked it on a hill. Wouldnt start after I stopped.
I left it for about 30 minutes, Fired right up. drove to get food, parked, drove back. No trouble. Car sat for a bout 5 hours, Started right up, drove it home. Car sits for an hour, Starts right up. Drive it to another friends house. Turn it off, Starts right up. Drove back to my house. Car sits for 4 hours. Wont Start. Fuel pump is on, but the starter doesnt turn. Try and try, Starter doesnt do anything. I pushstarted it again.

Now, I'm back home and writing this, after driving, the starter still wont turn. I'm hoping it will tomorrow morning.

87 SE, Stock motor 175k, stock starter etc. Whats going on, Is my starter going bad or what? I'm 17 and I NEED this car.

It has NEVER done this before, It's only flooded twice. It is cold, but it has never acted up liek this.

What could be the problem?

Thankyou!
-Ian

Check for loose wire connections. Starter solenoid could be sticking. Next time it don't start, get under the car and hit it with a hammer. ( not hard enough to dent it, but just to let it know you ain't havin' none of dis **** b-otch!) It may be that the alternator isn't always charging the battery and its going to drop a duece on you. Check the battery voltage with a voltmeter, then when you are in one of those no start conditions, check it again and compare. The battery could slowly be draining from all the starting, and if the alternator isn't recharging it when the engine is running, it will eventually be too weak to start the car. Intermittent problems are the hard ones to solve.

Voltage it always up at about 13.7 or amost 14 on the stock guage. I have over 12 volts when I'm trying to crank. Wire connections are fine, because Everything else works. My one frind suggested the solenoid, How do i fix it(I'll look it up later, I gotta work now). I'm leaning more towards solenoid issues. Thanks, If it doesn't work, i'm gonna hit it.

Yeah, I hit mine lightly with a hammer a few times. Works now. If that stops working, I'll be back.

Thanks Guys,

you might wanna also check the main starter relay
if it just "clicks" it could be that, at least that's what it was with mine last week

i just re-grounded where it screws to the side of the fender inside the engine compartment, and it worked fine...but i think it keeps coming loose because once in a while it will keep doing it

There was no clicking, or any noise from the starter. The only thing I could hear is the fuel pump running.
