start problem

I'm new user, have searched quite a lot but unable to find compression test procedure, can someone please point me to it, thanks (does the cranking seem effortless normally ie: the starter just seems to spin everything with little resistance yet it ran fine when I parked it, I'm used to cranking through compression resistance with piston motors) I really have tried to find this in the archive
