I don't know about that. I have only heard good things about Atkins. Please elaborate.

I have seen 3 bad engines from atkins. I think they are only in business still because they show up on google in the searches.. Wait for more people to post you will see.

then what do you suggest?

I also have heard nothing but good reports.

I'm not looking for them to build an engine, just get their rebuild kit.

I've had nothing but good dealings with Atkins...

Now, as for the original question, what kit you need depends on the condition of your engine. At the minimum you will need all apex seals, and all soft gaskets. How many miles are on the engine and why did it fail (if it failed)?

No problems here with Atkins. Then again, all I bought was a rebuild kit like the original poster wants to do).

Their "kits" are fairly complete but one thing that is slightly annoying is that their "master" rebuild kit doesn't come with oil control ring springs. Seems odd to me, and I missed it during my initial order - had to call up Mazdacomp and get a set rushed to me. Irritating.

The master kit plus oil control ring springs will suffice for a very thorough rebuild if you're not replacing the rotor / main bearings. You can always get those seperately.

well the engine had a coolant seal failure although i was told by dave at kdr that my engine is safe to fun as a DD however i have come across just about enough to start a rebuild so i am rebuilding i plan to keep the car relitvely stock just a few bolt ons i have two motors i have an s5 and an s4, s5 has 115,000 miles on it and the s4 has 238,xxx and neither have been previously rebuilt. just called atkins and they want me to pull my motor apart first so anybody that has previously rebuilt a motor and knows which kit is best respond im thinking master kit with oil ring springs then buy bearings later

Edit: soloII you have pm

you're a dumbshit

i've been using their engine parts for over 4 years and i haven't had a single return short of 15+year old car typical issues. did you know you can buy all OEM parts from them? even the generic gasket kits are OE parts that are in original part packages because mazda doesn't actually make all the parts themselves..

ignorance must be bliss.

for the OP, there is some info in the archive about what parts you should get and may need.

be prepared to replace an iron housing, the 2nd gens rarely just "blow a coolant seal", that is a 3rd gen issue.

You've obviously never dealt with Atkins, and you're obviously scum for badmouthing a shop based on other peoples' accounts, unless you personally were there to see a failure that could only be attributed to an Atkins design flaw (which still wouldn't warrant badmouthing out of the blue, especially if you've never spoken to the shop).

Get a brain and get off the internet, you're only contributing to the massive lack of information and surplus of misinformation that's already rampant.

OP: If there's one piece of advice I can give based on my, in comparison to many on this forum, limited rotary experience, it is that you are only wasting money in the long run by skimping on anything. Replace as many used parts as possible within a feasible limit, there is no sense in replacing only certain pieces if you are going to have the entire motor apart.. might as well shell out that extra couple hundred bucks and do it right.
Just my .02, best'a luck.

i havent personally tried their atkins apex seals yet but i will be using them in a customers engine here pretty soon...

i am a fan of oem mazda apex seals, but i wont bad mouth atkins apex seals since i have nothing to say...

they are a great company, family owned, and great customer service...i trust atkins and oem mazda.....

atkins soft seals are their own manufacture, they are a fair amount softer than OEMs which is good and bad. meaning they take less abuse before breaking but i have seen them not damage rotor housings or rotors on many occasions when they break.

Personally can vouch for the high level of quality of atkins provides. I have delt with them on numerous occasions.

After i graduate in may, i am focusing on my rebuild....... using a kit from atkins rotary.

Big turbo74 needs to stop talking out of his ***.
