Standard (and hot re-)starting Procedure
I just wanted to post the starting procedure shown in the OWNER'S MANUAL of my 1986 GXL (NA, 5spd). This might put to rest a lot of the discussions about what to do with flooded engines, short starts, etc. After putting in the key and turning to accessory it says:
1. PUSH the gas pedal to the floor once and then RELEASE it.
2. Start the car.
I have found that if I ALWAYS do this (hot, cold, restarted, whatever) it always seems to work.
I have also found that if I try to anticipate what it needs on a hot day with a hot restart I will get into trouble like the others I have seen posted here.
If this applies to enough cars/models, you might want to put this in the FAQ section.
