a squeak when i let off the gas?????

so im driving and i get to 4th or 5th gear and i let off my gas pedal to let it slow down a bit and i hear what sounds like bad belts but its coming from under the car??? any ideas. im gonna go ahead and change the belts in a couple of weeks just because its probably about time but im definatly sure that the noise im hearing is coming from my tranny?

Bad belts can make lots of different sounds, your description isn't very specific. Is it a quick chirp type sound? It could be engine or transmission mounts. Rev the engine with the throttle cable and note any excessive engine movement, same with the trans.

funny you mention mounts (i didnt even think about it) but i swapped my auto to a 5spd and the guy that did the mounts didnt do a very good job but its never made this kinda noise before. i cant hear it when i idle or rev just when i engine brake and also cruise in either 4th or 5th gear (sometimes.) it started doing it when i drove 2 hours non stop from evansville IN to louisville KY and now it makes the noise all the time. i thought it was belts cuz it was raining that day but now i dont know. its not as bad when its dry outside....

i just recently changed my slave cylinder and i noticed a very small leak on the soft line. not only that but should i be able to reach down and pull on my fork and move it back toward me? and after i released it there was a little play between the fork and the shaft that pulls the fork but only for a few seconds??? the car was off if it matters. but iv ruled out belts and im 100% sure its coming from my tranny. i went and drove it around and i let it get up to 5k in 1st and let it engine break then i did it in 2nd 3rd and 4th and the more i did it the less i heard it. but then i stopped and sat for a sec to think i tryed again and it started all over... and now it does itloudest in 2nd and 3rd. i havent gotten up to 5th just cruising so i dont know if it still sounds the same? also i noticed its probably about time to change the throw out bearing as i hear a hum while in nutrl and then nothing when i push on the clutch? so could it be that or maybe fluids low. i havent noticed any leaks were i park? has anybody ever had this problem? i think im gonna try to record what its doin so i can put it up on here. im not sure the sound i hear can be described very well.

I still don't know what it sounds like...though since it happens when you engine brake I think its the transmission mounts. The humming could either be a TOB or an input shaft bearing. There shouldn't be any play between the fork and the slave cylinder pushrod.

Actually since its a 5spd swap, what type of transmission to chassis support do you have? Does the shifter move up and down a lot when you brake? Check the transmission for any excessive movement..

its called shiftlock.
mine started doing the same thing right around when i started shiftlocking into corners. mine does in every gear but 4th. but sometimes when i go drifting, it cures it until i shift lock again. its weird.
as soon as i let off i hear the chirping kinda like birds chirping. ("squeak, squeak, squeak") it sounds like a chipped tooth in my trans (which i honestly dont doubt, because shiftlocks are the worst on your drivetrain), im going to change my diff fluid, and trans fluid, and ill post up an update. seriously if i were you, just ebrake, feint, or clutch kick to initiate. unless its raining, then go for it.

try replacing the fluids in your trans, and LSD. see if it helps, so i have motivation to get it done. lol

I had a crazy *** noise for the longest time I thought it was coming from many different places because the sound was just bouncing around. Later I found out (by shoving as much cotton in my ear as possible so I could REALLY hear JUST where the sound was coming from AND IT WORKED!) It was actually my EGR. It would let out a whine sound. I found out if I shoved from aluminum foil inside the hole above the relief valve that goes up and down it would hold the seal down and not whine.. basically the valve seemed to be old and worn out so it wouldnt close down all the way leaving a TINY opening and making a whine or whistle noise And it was only when I let off the gas Im assuming that this valve is supposed to close to create pressure but it wasnt able to close all the way during idle or letting off of the gas... so I shoved that in there for a temp solution. Its not a daily driver or anything just when I would warm it up and take it out... I have a new Jeep Grand Cherokee, a Mistu Lancer Ralliart and a MazdaSpeed 3 So this is my toy for now...

check that out man... anythings possible???

Good luck
