Spontaneous RX7 genetic cloning discovered in Fresno

I could explain all I want. Try to rationalize. Try to come up with a good explaination, but there is none. I mean, just look! YOU CAN'T EXPLAIN IT! Its like science has left the good Earth for reasons unknown.

I went to Ventura yesterday. I dont remember why now... But when I got home, went to bed, and then got up this morning... I found THIS!!!

<story mode>

alright everyone, gather 'round.

On Friday I called this guy about a turbo II he had for sale that Agent_D had told me about. Sounded like a really good deal so I went and looked at it yesterday. (I called from buttonwillow raceway which made it kind of hard to ask questions about his car while all of the full on racing honda's are driving by, but thats the way things go).

87 Turbo II
140,000 miles
good paint
good interior
no rust
straight body
recently replaced clutch, radiator, injectors, turbo, etc.
recently rebuilt transmission
Engine did not run. some of the accessories were off of the engine in preparation for a rebuild.
All parts came with car.
Car came with rebuild kit.

So my dad and I got in our mad tyte ride:

88 chevy astro van. (I know, why didn't I just get that instead. I"M SO STUPID!!)

stopped by U-Haul (just in case) and headed down south.

The drive was more or less boring and uneventful. I was too tired to drive since I had gotten up rather early the previous day to go to buttonwillow so I took a nap.

Once we got into Ventura we tried to find the guys house. We were stopped by a texaco and I was watching the people getting gas (I'm always looking outside of the car). I saw this guy who was getting gas get in his car and start to drive forward when the gas was still pumping. It ripped the hose off and gas was spewing out. I wasn't expecting to see that! too bad I didn't think to get out the camera.

Once we got to his house, he led us over to a yard of his cars (he had tons) in his mercedes convertable (not a new one). and there it was. sitting there behind a datsun 280Z which was behind a porsche 944.

(didn't think to take a picture while it was still light)
He had told me that it would be dirty so I knew to expect that. but after looking I saw that the paint was in good condition.

I took a good long look at the car and it was in very good shape over all. The paint on the back bumper was flaking a little bit, but only there. The front bumper has a little bend in it. The mufflers had some rust holes in them, but the rest of the exhaust had no rust. The only rust I saw (other than the mufflers) was on some of the screws. Other than that it was some cracked interior plastic panels, missing shift **** (and shifter bushings apparently...).

We agree upon a price of $2200 and head over to his house to do the paperwork. We get that done, then head over to his son's house and load my dad's van up with all of the parts that were off of the engine (intercooler, intake manifold/TB, radiator, belt driven stuff like P/S, A/C, alternatior, etc.)

Then we headed off to the yard to load the 7 onto the tow dolly. move the 944, move the Z car, push out the 7. load it up. Then Agent_D's friend (one that is doing the intake for all of you guys showed up and we talked for a while).

9:45 or so and we're on our way home.

I saw Rice Ave.

getting gas a bit after Bakersfield (I think it was after bakersfield...)

he looks so confined...

Once we got home (around 3:00 AM) we unloaded it off the trailor

and pushed it into his new home (a guy in a vette who just drove up gave us a bit of help since it was on a bit of a grade).

I know he feels a bit cramped. I'm going to clean it out some (going to have to so I can have room to rebuild it).

I had to break it into 2 parts and take out the smilies... too many pictures.

I went out and took some pictures of it today so you guys can see it.

In the garage (...i feel safe...):

As you can see its very dirty.

HE WANTS TO SMELL YOU

interior (messy but overall in good shape. Check out the origonal floor mats)

there was tons of bubble wrap in the back (that should keep me busy for quite some time.

engine:
Looks very bare, but the rest of the stuff is still in the back of my dad's van (haven't had a chance to get it yet)

Mad Fast Turbo (can't feel any slop in it)

and this is a shot of my computer area...

My first RX-7's name is Quantum. Since this one is the same in spirit, he too shall be named Quantum.

If any of you are wondering, I'm going to be taking a lot of pictures and I'm going to make 'The Idiot's guide to Rebuilding a 13b.'

Goodluck to you and Quantum. Sounds like Quantum has a great and caring owner. Take care of him... or her..

I have a feeling that a previous owner put it on. What makes me think this is that there are screws where the holes for the other style spoiler should be.

I would say K2RD would prove you wrong, but I'm probably going to put the coilovers on when the engine's out... for some reason anyway. You do know your front wheels are backwards, don't you (beat the rest of you guys to it)?

Anyway, I just cleaned the interior out and it looks very nice. there are no tears on the seats at all. just the usual thing with the bottom side bolster (the one thats on the bottom of the seat next to the door) and one wear mark type thing on the drivers door. The origonal floor mats are in very good shape. I had thought that the car hadn't come with a shift **** but it was in one of the compartments along with some windex, wire strippers (hey now I don't have to buy one), a wrench, some pliers and a ton of speaker wire. Origonal spare, jack, tire iron, etc. There is a small stain in one of the containers.

So far the total on cracked/missing interior panels is this: stereo surround, warning light cluster surround, right top a/c vent, driver's window control panel (he told me it was broken), and one of the main A/C vents looks a little funny( I think I'm going to see if I can fix it before getting a new one though). But other than the cracked panels and the usual dark spots on the carpeting the interior looks to be in great shape.

next step is to clean out the garage some.

I know. The more I look at it the better deal I think it was.

On a side note... am i acting weird if I'm leaving the light on in the garage at night because I think Quantum feels lonely?

I dunno. I don't like seperating my cars because I think they got used to each other.

I can understand that. I want both of my rx7s to be close to each other, but I think it would be kind of weird for them, since they have the same name. that and I couldn't fit both of them in the garage without some major complications.

I am 18 right now. Elementary school... K-2 I went to Robinson, 3-5 I went to Manchester G.A.T.E. and 6-11 I went to Fresno Christian.

By the way that is going to be a fun project and not a bad buy.
Thanks! I hope it ends up being as good as it looks.

speaking of looks, does anyone have a suggestion for cleaning the car off? Its in the garage and I don't think I can get a hose around to it. even still, I don't think I could hose it off in the garage. I know, I know, back it out onto the roadway. I just need 3 or 4 people to get it back in the garage since its on somewhat of a slope.

well, concidering it doesnt run yet, i dont think it matters if it had rims at all.

and my car is stupidly low. the guy that owned it before me sucked. the frame is roughly an inch from the ground. it wont clear ANYTHING. so im going tokico HTS and 17" rims. then ill be ok.
