Splitfires?

I'm just wondering, I read somewhere that you can't use Splitfire spark plugs on a 13b, why is that?

1. They dont make them.

2. The flame would probably blow out.

3. They suck.

have you ever looked at a rotary plug? they are very different than piston engine plugs. it wouldnt work. even if they would, it wouldnt matter. split fires are a joke, they arent worth ****. they dont actualy make a difference or anything

Splitfires

I didn't think they were too bad.

But even if you could put it in a rotary, the split sparking tip would most like bang/melt off inside and, well, kiss that housing goodbye.

Actually, Drifter, no, I haven't looked at a Rotary plug, seeing as this is the first one I've owned and the only thing I've had to change so far is a heater hose. Just wanted to check since I'd read about that somewhere. Thanks all

P.S. I use Splitfires in my '90 Ford Probe, so far they seem to work just fine.

Why would you want them anyway?

NGK plugs have 4 places for a spark to arc from as opposed to splitfires 2.

new rotary owner?

Welcome to the forum!

You will run into countless ******** here telling you to do a search when you have a question, inspite of the fact that you might like to discuss the issue.

But fear not!

Welcome!

RX7 ZRO, sorry if i came off as an *** or anything, i didnt mean to sound like it.

splitfires arent really that special from a performance aspect, they dont increase spark or power. despite the splitfire having four electrodes, the spark can only jump to one at a time, so its just like a normal plug that looks funny. nobody i know that has anything remotley fast runs a splitfire plug. in the case of a rotary, a plain ole NGK is the best thing you can put in it.

btw, welcome to the forum and the wonderful world of wankels

Iave actually had a few core motors with piston plugs in them, and they destroyed the rotors and housings making it totally useless.

Thanks, guys, I'd always thought that the splitfires were supposed to be better than normal sparks, so that's why I used them in my piston motor, but what's the deal with the rotory plugs? What's the design on them?

BTW, thanks for the welcome, it's always nice to meet some people who don't immediately call you an idiot for not knowing everything they know.

pull a plug and find out (it's damn easy to get at the plugs...)

I'll try to describe them to you...
The main portion of the plug is just a cylinder. there are two grooves running across the entire diameter of the cylinder on the end (the one that goes in the engine) at the point of intersection of these two grooves is the electrode bit... (dunno what its actually called...) ..it's slightly recessed.... but you really have to look at one yourself... (if you want to pay shipping I can send you some bad ones.. lol..)

Use only NGK spark plugs on your rotary...
That should be a rule.

oh, and when you do get around to changing the plugs, ALWAYS use anti-seize on the threads... steel plugs like to weld themselves to aluminum housings!

Did I forget to mention that heater hose was a pain in the ***? It was that kinda-S-shaped one near the going to the firewall....only had about four things to go around.

Oil filter....some electric wires toward the front....some more towards the back...damn it, forgot the flashlight...pull hand back out and find flashlight....send hand around previos stuff, work hand down to push hose onto proper spot on block...find hose clamp...find long screwdriver....I'm sure you get the picture.
