Split Air Pipe Work

Trying to reassemble the split air pipe for use in on my exhaust for emissions and my cat's sake. The previous owner just sawed the and welded shut the SAP at the cat I just picked up another SAP at a junkyard yesterday - instead of trying to mate these together to form another working SAP I was thinking about making myself a SAP of my own out of steel braided line? or something similar? I feel this would not only look better but work better as well, as I know most SAP are damaged in some way and many people who have S4s very much need them for 5th 6th port issues. Has anyone had any experience in fabricating a SAP of their own? Any tips or suggestions?

I need an SAP, previous owner removed mine and its S4 N/A! so I got no 5th/6th ports working and its noticable. very interested in how your braided line idea turns out, get to it and tell us how it works. seems pretty simple to me and should work the same wouldn't it?

The part where the Split air pipe meets up with the hose on the manifold has a Check valve.
The part looks like a bell shaped end, that is on the split air pipe itself.

the S4 pipe has a little vacuum nipple for the 6 ports, the s5 does not.

so you could run the s4 pipe, on both.

the s5 pipe on an s4 car would = no 6 ports.

that's for the NA's, i think the turbo ones are the same enough s4 and s5 to interchange

Cool, thx for the response.

I'm looking at getting an OEM S4 N/A exhaust for my father's S5 black vert. I had a RB N/A exhaust in storage from before my turbo swap on my vert. His factory exhaust was giving out so I put the RB exhaust on his car. BUT he's hated it. He says it's too loud, causes his car to backfire occasionally, etc. He's in his mid 60s and could care less about performance mods.

That being said, since he doesn't like it anyway I can sell the RB exhaust if I find a replacement for his car. I believe I have 2 S5 N/A pipes in storage and the exhaust I'm buying would come with a S4.

for the record, s4/s5 turbo motors have no split air pipe. they are 4 port always, so no need to actuate imaginary 5th/6th ports! they do have a pipe going from the air pump to the cat to lower emissions but thats its only purpose so I don't think they call it a split air pipe. not 100% on that but I am sure that the turbo would not see any performance changes from removing their pipe.

What I ended up doing is getting a SAP from a junkyard and instead of trying to weld the SAP back on I just used some high temperature rubber hose to connect the SAP to the outlet on the cat.

This came in extremely helpful when I connected the air pump directly to the SAP to help pass emissions.

So... I'm guessing it did help you pass emissions? Just wondering because I'm going to be doing the same thing pretty soon. You didn't say if you did it or you were going to.
