Yes, it's rare to find a salvage-title rebuild like that. I think it's most likely a paperwork or computer error.

86-87 Luxury or 88 SE. It may also be an 86-87 Base model, but I don't think that they came with a sunroof, although I'm not sure about that. The Luxury model had power mirrors and manual windows, if that helps any.

BTW, all of the 2Gens have 4-wheel disk brakes. It's the 4-piston front calipers on the 5-lug wheels which indicate the better brakes.

I guess it is a base model, it is definetly a factory sun roof. I went to my friend's body and chassis shop he inspected it and told me it was not aftermarket installation. So I'll settle for the 87 base model with sunroof and automatic transmission manual everything BUT..... TURBO CONVERTED!!!!

Leather seats were an option on the GXL... at least on the S4's Just about the only option you could get other than the 2+2 version and ABS which was $1300

No, the VIN does not tell you what model other than if it has a turbo or in the case of the SRS equipped cars, what seat belt or air bag it has.

And although this thread was dead for a good 6+ months, and brought back from that dead zone by 1adzam; Angel has a Luxury coupe.

Usually the VIN has all the info for the car. Even if you dont have the code the local Mazda dealer should be able to tell you about the car. It does sound like you have a GXL but you should probably check with the dealer. I would definately start there, but thats just me.

No, that is incorrect. For example say you had a 87 coupe (as mentioned above) it is model number FB04, according to the factory and the VIN build report from the factory that the dealer has.

So the dealer looks up FB04 and finds it could be either a LX (which was never offically advertised in the USA, instead it was called a "Luxury package"), or it could be a SE (again based on what Mazda has listed for the 87 FB04 model).

So which was it??? Well a expert would know that is must be a Luxury coupe, because Mazda didn't make the SE available until 88. Yet there it is in the Mazda factory info sheets on models that it could be either. In fact Mazda model sheets say the LX was built through the entire series 4 run. And lets face it, how many dealers have anyone close to an expert working for them???

Again the VINs do not list what model it is. And Mazda's info is only based on what VIN was what model number and there was 24 different model numbers just for the series 4 cars.

Hey I dont know what the vin all tells you, but before you buy any car you should use the vin to do a CarFax report. Also if you are buying anything like a car or "Wire Harness" from someone on the forum maybe you should look at the buyer feedback section. Like for example if I were to buy a wire harness from Quenepahead_Racing I might wanna check out the Buyer Feedback section to see if he is selling good products. That way I can see if he is selling good products and if he is not does he treat his customer correctly..? Well if anyone is bored they should just check out buyer feedback as it is fun to see who on here is ripping who off.
