speaker boxes

Anyone ever tried to take the boxes out of the back of your fc and block it off with two pieces of plie wood paint it and put the carpet back over it (of course filling in the hole with pillow stuffing or something to air proof it) and put some tens in there? I'm doing it now and was woundering if it sounds good or what? Or if anyone has some tips for me. Thanks!

cool thanks didn't check yet. Back in my younger days I would have taken everything out to lighten the car as to make it 3hp faster but now I'm a dad and like to have my comfort to so a good sound system is a must.

What do you mean when you say take out the boxes? Take out the things on the top which hold the stock speakers and replace them with new ones? Or replace the entire tube thing over the suspension?

Anyways, I have got 6.5 inch splits installed in space of the old stock stuff, with the tweeters mounted directly over the woofer via a big thick circular piece of plywood. I'll post a pic if you want. You could probably fit 10's in there, but you'd have to try really hard. I'd say go with 8's. Two eights are plenty in an rx-7.
Plus your tweaters and splits up front of course. (door pods, don't be stingy)

Well sorry I didn't clarify what I was talking about, I was meaning take out the cargo bins all together and cover the to square holes with plywood, cut a hole for a 10 to go in each and fill the whole compartment underneath the plywood with pillow stuffing. I would like to see your setup though.

I made kick plates to squeeze in between the shock towers and the rear of the hatch. Fits a 10" Infinity sub just nicely...sounds super clean.

Shoot me an email and I will mail you a pic of what I did.....

Make sure to put something RX-7 related in the title (lots of spam, would hate to miss it)

When will people learn that subs will sound like *** in the bins? Oh yeah... When they use the search feature.

I put them in that spot im my old vert and they sounded amazing. Everyone says they suck in the coupes there. What other options are there besides the spare tire area (I'm not going to ditch the spare).

They are 2 JL 10's. Single sealed enclosure. Everything fit under the stock cover. Zero chassis rattle.

Looks nice. Can you still get your spare in that spot? Does the spare rest on the amp? Inquiring minds want to know.

The spare had to be moved to the trunk. That beat the previous setup of having no trunk because the sub took up the whole thing. The spare fits great in the trunk and really doesn't take up much of the limited trunk space.

I also had to cut out the metal bracket that the spare bolted down to.

If I get another vert I will do the exact same thing.

any one who has listened to my system knows it dos not sound like ***.

It must be the $20 walmart subs you heard.

I'll Try to get some pic's up.
If you do it i would use somthing to seal on the bins. I don't think stock will seal to good.

Most of these setup's DO NOT sound good, and that is because you need the right air space. To get mine to sound good I got a fiberglass box made and I get a good 125db when set up at -0db gain with +- no more than 3db diferintal from 32hz up to 80hz.
The more time you put into it the better it will sound.
