Soon to begin n/a --> TII swap.

Right now I am preparing ripping everything out of the engine bay basicly. Going to hopefully pull the engine this weekend. In 2 weeks im hoping my TII donor car will be here and I can start doing the swap. I guess right now If anyone wants to leave a few tips to this project? I will have about 2-3 grand to spend on mods also. I want to start with cooling, but I am not sure exactly what to get yet. I would like to make 400-500rwhp eventual...most likely around 400. But this will be a slower process and take a few years im sure. But right onw I am thinking of starting with a radiator, intercooler, full exhaust and I am thinking a new fuel pump. I was reading somewhere on this forum to get a fuel pump early on. Does that sound like a fine start? Or should I spend the money else where? But I am going to do some more research on the intercoolers and radiators and such to figure out exactly what I want. So if anyone can give me some ideas on what i should spend besides this? Or if this is a good way to start, perhaps what types of these mods i should get. thanks guys

yea fuel pump is something you'd definetly wanna upgrade now. Some type of stand alone would be nice as well (PFC).

Well I was just thinking a bit... I probably wont need a new radiator yet or intercooler really. It might be nice but for now it probably wont be a huge deal. I wont be racing alot and driving hard enough to get the temps up. I am scoping out the PFC's right now as we speak...But I dont see whats the difference between the commander and the power fc... could someone let some light on this subject here?

Keep us updated on the progress. I am interested too in possibly doing a t2 swap but am concerned with getting the necessary parts or finding a parts car. Good luck with the project and take pictures!

I dont see why it matters if rip her apart now or later? I dont mind waiting if thats the case. I also got alot of cleaning to do with the engine bay and stuff...and need to clean out the interior really well...so I will find stuff to do well im waiting for the car. Anyways today I actually started taking some stuff apart. I removed the airpump, radiator, fan shroud, powersteering, alternator, the belts, the whole intake up to the throttle body and then the battery. So basicly All I have left is the fuel stuff, exhaust, the starter, all the vacumm lines and such, and then the air conditioning. Would that be right?

I believe it is the oilcooler? It was infront of the radiator after i took that off. Do i need to remove that too, or will that be fine there?

After getting all that out, there was a ton more space now. I noticed everything is just caked with thick dirt and greese. So I will be doing some major cleaning, It looks like.

Also when i start putting the TII into this car...Will I be using alot of the same connecters, hoses and wireing and such? Or will i need more or less or all new stuff? Thanks guys , i will keep everyone updated and get some pictures when I take the engine out.

Check out Kevin Lander's website at Rotary Resurrection and click on his "Tech" link. I'm in the process of doing an N/A to T2 swap myself (although I am waiting on the T2 rebuild + T2 parts which I've already ordered from Kevin....2 more weeks to go!). I followed his "Engine Removal" guide and found it very simplistic, helpful, and straight-forward. I'll be following his "N/A to T2 Conversion" once he's done rebuilding my engine and ships it out to me. Right now though, it's basic cleaning and beautifying time! I am taking lots of pictures as well, and will probably start a thread before too long posting pics and such (probably once the T2 stuff arrives).

Man...I am starting to experience how long this is going to take heh :P. I didnt think the tear down part and engine removal would be such a pain to me. I have actually never done anything to a car before. This was the first time draining oil and the antifreeze ever. So this is a huge learning experience for me. I know what most of the stuff in the car is, but I have never really touched anything or taken it apart. I have no idea where any of these hoses lead...or which r vaccumm hoses and such. heh. I can tell you when i finish this, i will know so much more. I am going to have to take out almost all the hoses to get to some of the things i need. I am having a hard time getting the air conditioning out,(well just unhooked and tied up, not taking any of the hoses off it) There is a few big hoses that are making it a bitch to get to the bolts. And there a bitch to remove the hoses too. I am almost thinking of removing most of the hoses and such completly from the car...not letting them hang around and such.... I am probably going to have to tag them so i remember where they go. I am planning to replace most of the hoses though. But there are so many damn hoses and such. I dont think I even want to put the Airpump,a/c,p/s back in....Just so much more room with that out. Does anyone have a link to a post or a site that shows which hoses i can completly remove? like the rats nest? Or is everything i can possibly remove on the sticky on the archive? I thought i could get rid of most of the hoses and such? Oh well leave some feedback and such thx guys

Ya i took a few pictures...I havnt taged to many things which i should have...I will be going over and tagging alot of it soon...I will also be taking pictures of the TII donor car comming...and looking at that alot too for references. Also when i get this engine removed ... I will be cleaning the bay up really well...its just loaded with dirt right now...Will it be safe to just use a pressure sprayer on it? Or could that mess up some electrical stuff? I am assuming as long as i let everything dry before i use them again it should be fine but dont want to go at it if not

Alright I will try my best...Say I ended up breaking a wire or something...What kind of wire is needed to replace these?

Truthfully I wouldnt mind replacing most of the hoses and some of the wireing too...There is just tons of film and dirt and such all over the place...and alot of it just looks ghetto...seems like alot of it is all electrical wired up and just starting to fall apart.

When you removed everything from your enginebay...how did you remember where everything went? You just label everything ?

Hey does anyone have a diagram or something so i know which hoses and such i can remove to try and simplefy this engine bay? Would like as little as possible in this bay...will be so much nicer to work with

I took several pictures of the engine before the removal, and some pictures after the engine was removed. I'd take some pics of each side before I started removing things so I'd know. I am not too concerned with lots of the stuff going back in since I am sure things will be different when dropping in a T2 conversion, but I've got the FSM's downloaded and plan on referring to that a lot during the install.
