one correction, maybe it was a typo but you need a non turbo clutch and flywheel to bolt up to a non turbo tranny.

and my first fc was a 88 se, the breaks arent all really that bad, but the gxl breaks are a lot better by comparason

V8 would be good! jk!!

You don't seem to have a bad little car there, but I'm not sure I would recommend it for a 1st RX-7. Maybe good experience to rebuild the motor on your own, but that's about it. Depending on how long it sat it may need a lot of brake.suspension work and the car just isn't worth it.

If I were you I'd spend a little time looking around and find a $1500-$2000 clean S4 out there that is great running condition. Drive it for awhile, see how you like it, work out the bugs, if any and starts from there with your mods.

I'm afraid with this car you'll encounter more problems that it's worth, get discouraged and forget the RX-7s forever!

Whatever you decide, good luck and you'll find all the answers you need right here on this site.

Take care!

Hey, u got the rotary fever now too??COOL.

I have an '88 GXL and it does have awesome brakes, but what is the deal with everyone wanting to change from 4 to five lug??Is there really that much of a difference?

Also a note, I'd be careful running full open exhaust such as the Apexi N1 setup without cats and such unless you are going to compensate for the larger exhaust(higher flow), especially if aftermarket intake is used as well. My experiences/discussions have made me wary of increasing air flow through the turbocharged motor with stock ecu/fuel management, you start getting into boost creep and spikes, lean conditions and possible detonation.

Just becarful to cover your butt when modifying your car. Like said earlier, build a solid base first, almost building from ground up(brakes/suspension/steering/cooling/elctrical charging system etc...) to make sure you have a safe/solid ride to pimpout. Otherwise you'll be in constant repair.

Goodluck and welcome to the wankel way.......

lucky!

office888- The guy was going to put a 350 V8 in it and convert it to a drag car, but thankfully the car is untouched.

why would u ever put a 350 in a rx7 that is beyond me why someone would ruin a rx7 like that.

Five lug has a better wheel selection. =P

I understand that modifications have to be distributed. My intent was not only for a catless Apexi N1 exhaust system with a catless downpipe, but a short ram intake with an HKS filter on top. I'm trying to keep this car sorta as a JDM-Theme'd car. My CRX has a lot of parts by United States manufactures and is pretty ghetto. But it's fast.

Ignition was going to be upgraded to thicker wires along with the best spark plugs (iridium or platinum) that I can find. I'm also considering a CDI box.

To compensate for fuel, I've discovered that a slightly used HKS Fcon for the FC3S can be had for cheap on ebay. If I cannot purchase an FCON, i'll go with the Apexi SAFC instead. Also, an HKS FCD to handle the fuel cut issue. The fuel pump will be replaced with a Walboro 255 lph to handle the new turbocharged motor, and the wiring will be redone with thicker gauge wire. The stock wastegate would be ported to combat the boost creep issue. As said, the thermal pellet would be eliminated with the Atkins Rotary replacement. As stated, the ACV and EGR valves would be removed a blockoff plate installed. Since there's no use with no cats, the Air pump would be removed as well.

To handle cooling, i'm looking into Silicone radiator hoses combined with a Koyo Aluminum 2" thick (or thicker) replacement with dual slim electric fans.

I try not to be a fool about my projects. =P

After my CRX, which took 9 months to get running, I will never get discouraged by a project automobiles. RX7s have been always a passion of mine. I've always found rotary motor interesting. My top two dream automobiles are a black 1991 Acura NSX and a black FD3S RX7.

I would have loved to have spent that $1500 to $2000 on an RX7. Really. I would have. But I don't have it. That $1500 to $2000 would get me nearly everything stated above, maybe more if I catch some deals. I do ALL of my own work, with the two exceptions of welding and complex machining. Paint and mechanical, all me.

Macymann89

Amen to that. Rotary > Pistons.

LeeTheSlacker

Thanks for the correction, that's what I meant.

Hopefully that answered everyone! Thanks for all of your support!
