Someone validate me...please

First off, I know i'll inevitably be flamed for this...I've come to terms with that.

I ran into a problem with my s5 6 port turbo project a while back. The 550cc injectors I ordered were clogged to hell, as in +30% across the board on the SAFC to make the car idle. Thats pretty bad. My plan for this project was a modest boost in power.
~4-5 psi max on an IHI RHB-5 turbo from an mx-6, FMIC ( 24x9x3), 255 lph pump, and an SAFC. However, the lack of T2 injectors frightened the hell out of me as I've heard that the stock ECU caps the injectors off at some stupid low percentage, and therefore i wouldn't be able to do a whole lot with the SAFC.
My friend with a turbo miata suggested that i look into a Vortec FMU. He currently runs 5 psi on a greddy kit with nothing but an FMU to control fuel, and has no problems, even with heavy track use.
I ended up going with the 8:1 unit and went merrily on my way. Initial testing went well. The car pulled hard with no hiccups, and was even shooting black smoke after boosted pulls, which tells me WAAAY to rich. However, I started to have hesitation issues recently and I've fouled a few sets of plugs. Right now, the car is sitting in my driveway, awaiting new plugs, but having not driven it for a week or so ( due to other battery related issues), I'm nervous to drive it. So. I guess I'm just waiting for someone to tell me whether or not I'm being a COMPLETE IDIOT by not going with 550's. OR, If IN THEORY, the setup is relatively safe as long as i tune it properly with a wideband. any input would be greatly appreciated.

note: I plan on eventually getting a new set of injectors when money permits, I guess a more appropriate question would be :is the setup safe to drive in the meantime.
Thanks,
Jeff

Maybe Im not understanding the question. You said you were running 550s, but you are asking if you are an idiot for not going with 550s?

And at +30 on your SAFC you are definitly going to foul your plugs, and probably toast your injectors too.

Why dont u just get the injectors cleaned? Go to a local diesel shop, should be under 50 bucks to get a pair cleaned. Or look in the yellow pages, and remember to call around. Also some shops give you a flow reading after they are cleaned, to make sure they are firing evenly (only useful on standalones i believe) but still good to know.

ah, sorry bout that exclusion. the injectors were so bad, i replaced them with the stock 460's. which is why i feel stupid after the fact. also, I only run about +5 on high throttle right now.

as for calling around to diesel places. I still cant find one. I live in South Bend, IN. If anyone knows of someplace close. Clue me in. Although that still wouldn't fix the current drivability problem.
