somebody tried to break into my car (again)

Sometime this morning, somebody tried to break into my car (again) and managed to destroy my passenger side lock (either a screwdriver or a drill). Unfortunately, my driver side lock was already broken by someone with a screwdriver before I bought the car, so I'm essentially locked out of my own car. I'm gonna have to call a locksmith and have them open it up for me, but does anyone know how much is a reasonable price for having them open it up and change out both locks? I'd do it myself, but I need the car for tomorrow, so I can't wait for new tumblers to be shipped to me.

GARGH, 2nd time in a month and it's in a gated garage tooo!!!

To get both of them done, you are probably looking at 100-150 give or take for them to re-do it. Thats assuming no damage to the actual mechanism....

another brilliant title for a thread, maybe next time they will get your car and you won't have to worry about calling a locksmith.

Yep, can't climb in through the trunk, can we?

I just leave my chihuahua in there when I'm away- six pounds of spotted fury is a strong deterrent

Just call a locksmith and tell them someone broke into the car and you need the locks fixed. He should be able to give you an estimate.

That is probably the best idea, if possible. It will cost less to fix that way, too.

That's probably cheaper than having new locks shipped. Now the only problem that remains is how to get into the car....

haha......ain't that the truth. lol. Can't locks be used interchangeably? Like swapping the passenger one with the driver one?

A smart buglar would poison the dogs a day before the attempt to steal the car. The only reasonable theft deterent is to know your neighbors and have a good car alarm.

Yea, the tumblers are both interchangeable. Ironically, I was planning on swapping my good passenger side tumbler with my bad driver side one this weekend, except now they're both bad.

If only I had done it last weekend.....

In any case, can the car still be started if I remove the Main fuse? I got a tow truck company to come open up the car for me today, but the locks won't come in until Monday, so I can't lock my doors (unless I want to have them come again and pay another $45). At the very least, it's in a gated garage, and I'll pull out my stereo for the weekend from the dash so the only thing of value they could possibly steal are my wheels. Otherwise, does anyone else have any ideas as to how I could go about doing this (short of pulling out my battery, because it'd be a hassle to do this every time I go out for the weekend).

that sucks dude, I had mine broken into 3 times. Once at my old house and twice at my new joint. They came back exactly 1 year after the first time. Stupid me I had my durango keys and house keys in the car. But I fixed all that by changing the ignition, locks, and remote to the cars and new house locks. I stayed up a few nights waiting for theyre return with no luck. Then they came muahaha. I chased those ****** with my machete all they way down the street and I havent seen them since. That was 2 yrs ago.

Yea seriously, that's what I wondered at first too. I thought maybe it was vandalism, but why screw with just 1 lock and not the paint or top or etc.

Well, I guess I was lucky. Whoever broke in also tried to hotwire this other girls CRV (although obviously it has anti-theft starter disable, since it's pretty new and has a big sticker on the window that states it). What a genius, haha.

Sucks dude. Somebody broke my driver's side handle trying to get in the FD. Now that's another non-performance mod I have to do.
