Red face Some information about H4 conversions

I've been looking into doing this conversion for about a week now and decided to see what was out there in terms of quality products. I think most of you would agree that Sylvania would be the most generic product that functions well for it's price, and then there is Pilot and Hella. I don't really know why i picked those two, but PIAA was more money than I wanted to spend. So here is what i found.

Housings:

Pilot Housing p/n: WL-HL5A Pep Boys $66.48
Hella Housing p/n: 72206 Pep Boys $60.06
Generic p/n: 654037 Corksport $56.00
Generic p/n: 577376 Corksport $55.00 (w/ blue halo)

Bulbs:

Hella H4 p/n: 78150L Pep Boys $8.57
Hella H4 p/n: 78150L Schmucks $7.59
Hella H3 p/n: 78135y Pep Boys $6.50
Hella H3 p/n: 78135y Schmucks $2.99
Sylvania H4 p/n:H4ST Schmucks $24.99
Sylvania H3 p/n:H3ST Schmucks $19.99

The h3's are for fog lights that are supposed to match the h4's you may be installing. So I guess the cheapest way would be ebay followed by. Generic Corksport blue halo's with Hella H4's and H3's.

I also found a part number for white turn signal lights at Pep Boys for those that are interested 19227.

Sorry, but i couldn't find any pilot halogen bulbs. You may be wondering what the intensity difference is between the Sylvanias and the Hellas that would create such a difference in price. I can't answer that question. not because I don't want to, but because I don't know.

I'm not sure we learned anything here, but i got to stay up an extra few hours cross referencing stuff to..night..day. I'm gonna be soooo friggin late for work to..morr..day.

I'll make a choice during the day and then go pickup the hardware. I hope to have before and after pics from the install.

Sylvania has some really really nice H4 bulbs. I bought some for my motorcycle a while back, they were $29.95 for two bulbs. Hyper-brites, or something like that. I had to order them from the UK, because they're not DOT approved.

But man, unbelievably bright. Best bulb I've ever used (and no, they're not those crappy "hyper-white" bulbs or anything with a blue film over them)

Thanks for the part numbers! This is something I've been wanting to do for a while now. The stock headlights on my 7 are definitely sub-par.

I have the corksport ones, sure they are brighter but they are not exactly a direct replacement as the "lip" for the bracket is thicker than stock

You know I did an H4 conversion for the 93 probe. MAJORLY sucked ***. Couldn't see **** after I did the entire hing and I didn't feel like taking my time to put the old ones in. I bought the unit off ebay (housings + H4 bulbs) and installed it and relaligned.
can't see more than 20 feet out on the roa, if that.

I've always been scared to put something like this on the mazda because I figure i will hve the same results. Coincidentaly im running some sylvania halogen sealed beam lights for the last couple years. They are pretty bright, but I could use something a little stronger on brights.

anyways. my bad expereience with ebay stuff

I hear the Raybrig housings are great, but of course they're ~$100.

Rarest has the Hella crystal housing and PIAA bulbs.. they are brighter than my "Sylvania Cool Blue" NON h4 headlights but it's not a HID vs Hallogen difference.. while it is noticable it's not say 200.00 worth to me anyway.

I got ebay housings and sylvania silverstars. Good improvement from stock and cost about 80 bucks. My ebay housings have a shield over the bulb so you dont blind people and it is crystal cut.
