You can in fact go to the dealer with a VIN and get another key made. I dunno if they'll want other info too, give them a call and see.
Other RX-7 keys only work when the lock is dirty. Clean the lock and you won't have to worry about some schmo trying it with his key.

im assuming that the rx7 uses only one key to use on the door and ignition
that if you make a copy of the door key then you should be in the safe zone

I think that there are so many hundreds of the same keys floating around the world for every car ever produced. The manufacturer just tries to ship the cars to different parts of the country for "security"...
I remember back in the day my mom had an Olds Cutless. We came out of the grocery store one day and a little old lady was in it. Got inside, started it up and was about to drive away until my mom yelled to her. Turns out she has the exact same make model and color car parked one section over... Kinda scary really.

Reminds me of a few years back, we were coming out of a store, and pressed the trunk realse button on the remote. And were surprised to see not only our trunk pop open but the car next to us. We unlocked our car and that one unlocked. It was kinda of funny trying to get that car unlocked with us in our car.
And just go tot he Dealer if the locks have not been changed. They can pull up your vin number and make a key for you, i had them do this to my other car not to long ago.

I just got an ignition key from the dealership around January. My original (now the spare) didn't want to work with the storage bins/glove box.
They needed my current registration and picture ID, and cost me ~$50 IIRC.

There's a sick turbo2 that lives near me that my key works in. He's watching his back So seriously, you could probable round up a few keys from local people and one probably could work.
