So , now it grinds 4th....

So, the car sat for almost 7 months while I did the engine rebuild and all the other stuff to it.

When I put the tranny back in I put Redline 75-90W NS fluid in it. It made the shifts feel nicer.

However, a big surrpise was that fourth gear started grinding on the fast upshifts. That NEVER happened before and I don't understand. This is gonna suck at the drag strip.

Is there a different fluid I could try? This is on my TII.

James

I may get flamed all to hell for this, but here goes..

I am running redline shockproof gear oil. It looks like Smurf pee, but it makes my tranny shift like butter. I am sure that its not good for the transmission, but I cant really say that I care. Its made for transmissions and differentials.

A unique gear oil designed to lubricate racing transmissions and transaxles which see serious loads (not recommended for most syncro-type transmissions). It has excellent low-temperature flow which allows easier shifting when cold. May be used to obtain maximum power transfer in racing differentials which do not see high temperatures. Similar to a 75W140 gear oil, but with the lower internal friction of an SAE 30 motor oil.

Man, I might try it...because something tells me I might need 4th in the 1/4 mile.

Use a different gear oil.
If you like Redline, the MT90 is worth trying
Others:
Neo75w90hd
RoyalPurple Maxgear 75w90
Specialtyformulations MTL-R
Amsoil MTG

Bleed your clutch. How old are the master/slave/clutchline??
Did you replace/upgrade the shifter, engine or tranny mounts?

That is a good thought on it might just not becoming out of gear fast enough...the slave cyl is at least 5 years old. I could try replacing that.

I wil try that MT90 stuff...

Shift slower....I could double clutch it on the up shift...but that is slow Despite what F and F taught us

Well, I put the MT90 in there...

It took about 50 miles of driving but the grinding into 4th stopped and it shifts very nice

Sweeetttt

the difference between a fast shift and a not so fast is only around 2 tenths to 3 tenths. whats the big deal?

put an automatic in there if all you do is drag.

Who was the dumbass that told you to use this in the trans?

That's straight up gear oil, and I bet it has sulfates in it, cause it stinks like hell.

Sulfates kill bronze synchronizers in the transmission - this is why you were getting problems.

MT90 is the stuff Redline recommends for the FC transmission.

enough to have to know the difference

the improvement of your time came more from the improvement of your once 2.3 60ft and car power than shifting speed

Tell me something I dont already know. When you are cutting 1.8 60 foots on street radials, let me know.

Few points here for slpin (although I have no idea why I am wasting my time);

#1. 2-3 tenths for me is worth speed shifting. That can be the difference between a 12.xx and an 11.xx

#2. Put an automatic in? You have to be kidding. My car sees track duty all the time, and not just Drag.

#3. If you dont have anything of relative value to add to the conversation, dont bother posting.

*sigh*
go ahead, i dont see why you have to be a douche about it though
if you know so much... you should know 1.8 60ft and STILL NOT IN THE 11s while trapping 115 is pathetic.
maybe our definition of speed-shifting is different...
my slow shifting is probably right around where your speedshifting is...

but then, you know everything, right? *Sigh*

Yes, I do. And explain how my 114.96 trap is pathetic? Obviously you are smarter all the simulations we ran. With the dyno data, weight of the car, etc.. We got the optimum shift points. The simulation said absolute fastest was 12.4. I bettered it by .04.

So again, explain how that trap = 11s?

You damn flatshifters....
LOL

GO for Royal Purple man, worth the money, It gave me a noticable bit more pep(torQue- especially in the T350 tranny) in my truck and at least a good 3-5 better MPG....

worth the few bucks, especially in a smaller car like a 7..

Actually, I dont use the flatshift, the car just revs.. Anyone that can speed shift good will only see a 500 or so jump in rpm before the clutch comes back out.

Yeah, some how or another after that post I have a feeling we'll be seeing some...

"My transmission doesn't shift anymore, I was power shifting like J-Rat told me to"

or

"My clutch won't engage anymore I don't know why? I just shifted without lifting the gas at all!"

lol

I never said it was GOOD for the tranny! But I can afford the damage I do to the car.

lol ok, better, now the ricers won't try doing it on their daily driver.

God, my boss owns a 350z, which I was keeping up with my skipping S/C belt, any who, long story short his friends owns a 350z and they raced and my boss kept complaining that he kept getting him on the shifts...

I asked him what the guy (James) was doing in his shifts, he said he didn't let the grass off the ground at all during the shifts...I just shook my head in dismay and mumbled damn people are luck with their warranties!
