Sneed's Speed Redesign of 2nd Gen Rx-7 fan shroud
We have redesigned our 2nd gen Rx-7 fan shroud for better cooling and easier install. It now covers the radiator core completely. For pics and more info you can vist www.SneedSpeedShop.com. Thanks to everyone on the fourm for the help in making our shrouds better by commmenting on what you would like to see in our products and how we can make them better.

Looks good. It looks as thought you have made the shroud thinner to fit under the radiator's IN and OUT tubes?
Seems to be a better design then the one you had before with the gaps so the static presure will be raised slightly but should overall increase airflow through the entire radiator when using the e-fan.
I can also see more resistance in airflow while driving (fan off) due to the thin design. Although, I can't say from experience.
Overall, I like it better then version 1.0
I would like to say that you should keep working on the designs and that this shouldn't be the last. I think possibly making the ends a 45* angle instead of a 90 degree, that may be better for driving airflow.

If you have the fan set up on a thermal sensor, then the worst thing that should happen by it restricting air flow by being thin would be that the fan stays on longer. Once you're really cruising down the road though there will almost certainly still be a ton of air running through it.

I thought about that too but someone out there might not want to take the time to build their own shroud and will find the 140 bux reasonable enough. I won't buy one but i'm sure someone will.

hmm, I missed that too. With that taken into consideration then you really can't go wrong with it. Still looks good, price is even more reasonable than what I had originally thought and it's better than trying to replace an old/faulty stock fan.

I'd like it a lot better if it stood out a little from the radiator, and angled to the fan instead of the fan and shroud resting right against the core... which basically means you are throwing away half the natural air flow cooling through the radiator with that design.
I guess if you run the fan when ever the car is running instead of just when it is needed... well, then I guess that shroud appears to be fine.

A flat panel will not allow decent air flow... even if it sticks up an inch from the rad, the air simply will hit a wall and not flow well, compromising all the air flow through the radiator.

Hes basically saying that it's so close that it's equal to cutting a hole out of a flat sheet of metal, which limits the air flow. If it were raised some, and angled inward, it would direct the air to the fan, instead of acting like a wall.

Im going to build my self a shroud but im going to attempt, and maybe sneed can take note, but I will have the panel flat wher the fan goes but will curve down about 2" or so down to the radiator on the ends. I will just bend around the IN and OUT tubes on the rad. Infact, since it will be curved down, maybe it will fit right under the tubes. I guess I will have to see.

Unfortunately, any design like Sneed's runs into two disparate requirements...
In order for the fan to draw air effectively the shroud must cover the rad completely but this leads to airflow blockage when the fan is not running.
Trying to duplicate a shape similar to the stock shroud would be difficult- thus, expensive- if done in metal.
It's funny you mention mounting a fan in the stock shroud as I spent several hours in a junkyard today doing just that.
Walking around with a shroud trying to match the opening to efans from various cars was hot, sweaty work...here's what I found.
Most efans are simply too small or their carriages (for lack of a better word) too oddly shaped to be easily adapted.
One fan however was an almost perfect fit, ironically from an American car- a Camaro (1987 to be exact).
This thing slips into the stock shroud's hole like it was made for it but of course there is a problem...it sticks out about 4" and will foul the waterpump snout.
It's really a shame because with a little Dremel work to remove some unneeded tabs the marriage would look like a factory piece.
I don't want to hijack Sneed's thread- congrats to them on their new product, BTW- if I make any progress I'll start my own.

yeah, i've seen an e-fan mounted perfectly in a stock shroud, i thought it was pretty neat, as for me i'm sticking with the stock fan due to how much that thing pulls, only other thing id try is a taurus fan, from what i've read it move a ton of air but draws alot of power . . .
