smoking when start up...help!!!
just bought two 87' gxl rx7 for $300, one has no engine and the other had a bad water pump. so i changed the water pump and started the engine (car has been sitting for 1 yr) and it started smoking, and kepted on smoking. not sure if it was due to the cold weather or something, but the engine was flooded before start up so yeah anyways haven't changed oil or spark plugs yet, would any of these things help? or is it my coolant and oil seals?

If it smokes and dosnt stop then there is a problem, be paranoid, be very paranoid and watch out for ducks.
Run down
Blue smoke
burning oil(more than just the start up) REBUILD
White smoke
Either condinsation in the exhaust or Burning coolant
Black smoke fuel
Its just fuel make sure you are getting enough air into the engine and that the fuel system is working properly

woke up this morning, and started the car. and it says add coolant, i added 5.5 quarts the other day how much more does it need? the fuel light was on too, probably needed more fuel but just putting it out there. okay anyways it was letting out white smoke, and almost covered my entire house(it was really cold outside, the whole car was covered in ice) also when i started my car there was a pop sound that came from one of my exhaust, what could be causing that? also when i started it up the over flow tank was bubbling but stopped after a while i think. anyways what does this mean? any reply would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

If you're actually burning that much coolant than you soundslike you need a rebuild. But if the car has been sitting for a year than there will be alot of crap to burn out. Try taking the coolant fill cap up before you turn the car on. Leave it off and start her up. If you see lots of bubble and or alot of coolant spills out, it's cause your pushing compression into your cooling system from your engine ... time for a rebuild.
