smoking gear shifter
As the title indicates, there is smoke coming out of my shifter.
I'm currently driving a 86 FC GXL everything stock no mods just a bigger exhaust.
So I've noticed recently that whenever I go above 3.5rpms on 1st gear or whenever I'm going over 100km/h on either 4th or 5th gear a little smoke comes out from my gear shift. The shift **** itself heats up quite a bit after about 10 minutes. It can't be oil burning since I've done compression tests and regular oil checks (doesn't smell like oil either, smells more like burning plastic)
I dont have much experience with transmission parts so I'm not sure if it's the tranny fluids but something down there is burning and it's keeping me from enjoying a nice drive in the summer weather.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Damn BC bud... it's even getting the gear shifters now!!! Sorry, had to.
Probably either an exhaust leak or some kind of oil dripping on the hot exhaust. Like above, i'd suspect tranny lube first. I would also check and see if the cat's are clogged and overheating.
If you need to take it to a shop out there, go see Mark at RG Racing in Coquitlam. He'll be able to get it sorted out for you.
