Smoking at the...
Stop light today after 80 miles of drive. Oil pressure gaguge is functioning, temp 1/3 when I noticed a oil smell in the car. Look back and saw a gray smoke just oozing out from the back. I rev the engine and see what happens, it seem to smoke about 5 minutesish. I then got on a FWY and drove again keeping looking back. I don't seem to see any smoke (and again you are driving so it may be difficult to see if it's really smoking) but, I didn't smell anything.
I drove back and put 'em in my garage and let it idle for about 5 minutes (my ritual) and ckd for smoke nothing.
After cooled off I started the engine again and I didn't see any smoke.
I cked all the threads pertaining to smoke, but, all seem to be related to when you start the engine. Mine didn't smoke when I started, but after driving combined FWY and off the FWY.
There's occational SMOKING goes on, but, it seem to stop after revving and drive for a while.
I have Jspec engine (less than 1,000) and new turbo Garret T04 with all new lines and MS catback.
My primary concern is I just can't figure out the source/cause as I check fluid level on a daily basis and it's all OK.
Really appreciate your input
P.S. my idle at that time of incident seem to fluctuate between 700 to 750. My idle does not fluctuate at all (normally)

Was your turbo/engine new.. or rebuilt?????
Sounds like something, like a seal, is expanding when its heating up and passing oil, check the outlet of the turbo to the intercooler for oil residue.
My buddy had this problem and it turned out that the oil seal on the front rotor was damaged during ever so slightly rebuild during rebuild.
and I hate to say this... does the smoke linger around a long time or dissapate very rapidly... My current TII is getting ready to puke out its water seals and it will smoke a bit at idle after running on the highway and then dissapate, when it first started doin it, i noticed no change in temperature, but as its getting worse, the temperature is bouncing around when you get under boost as compression is being forced into the water system. After a long run, when you idle it, i think some water is finding its way into the rotor housings cause the water system is under pressure and it smokes until the pressure is equalized and the idle, which is usually rock solid, fluctuates between 700 to 800 on the S-AFCII.

I'ts Jspec with certified paper states only has 980 miles(or Km I'll look at it later) on it.
And yes and no to pattern so to speak. After I reved it twice or so the smoke cleared and concerned vehicle behind me with high beam letting me know that smoke was coming out turned off the high beam.
It is only happened once before.

I checked coolant level and oil when I got home, but, there's no loss of coolant whatsoever, and oil level is fine. While going home I was rather concerned and eyed on temp and pressure. Nothing.
Perhaps, running rich for a while and stopped at the light may have caused residual oil to feed into the rotor and smoked?????????

I almost changed my license tag to Genie, Smokey, or ADDOIL. Mine smokes everyday. But, I have seen three occasions where it smoked worse. It's an 87 non-turbo.
Worst smoke was when the PCV valve and vacuum hoses needed to be changed. Smoked cold for about 30 seconds and at high revs. Lady, who sold it to me, thought the engine was on the way out at 180k. Smoke would last about 1/8 mile down the road. Embarrassing, but could be used as a get-away-car or keep-off-my-tail-car. Second time, the vacuum hose to my boost sensor split, which caused a rich idle. Only smoked driving over 80 on freeway. Changed it and reused the pill inside the old hose. Third time, the car set for 2 months. Starting up, it smoked well over 5 minutes. Turned it off and changed the oil. Turned the key, no more smoke. Since it is so old, it smokes only at startup for about 5 seconds, then only if you rev over 5000 rpm.
Now, it has over 242k. I still get 23 mpg (no-cat), w/ AC, driving about 75 miles a day to and from work. With all that smoke, I can't keep a cat alive on the car. So, I do the ole switch-er-roo, when it’s time. With cat about 17 mpg. I drive it under 2000 rpm, until its warm, then only rev up to 5000, when an V6 bugs me. Can't race a V8.
