smokin'
The car is smoking now. I don't know where the hell its coming from! it's definatly coming out of the exhaust. Color is white, possibly slightly bluish. Smells oily. how can I tell if it's the turbo or the engine oil seals? I've had the I/C out, didn't notice any excessive oil.
how much shaft play is unacceptable? I'm HOPING that it's the turbo, because I have a spare. I don't have a spare motor

hm, i have no clue. if you knwo for sure the motor has that many miles on it, then i donno why it would need a rebuild already. Thats weird that there is already a new motor in a 40k car..

never saw over 2500rpm......wow. i say the synthetic oil is to thin for the old dried out seals. try a thicker oil or something. I dont now how you would check the turbo though.

change the oil and go to somthing non sinthetic that is probably the problem. as you probbably know its suposed to smoke from the oil burning at high rpm's but just in pufs. if yours is constant then. i dont know man. but i have seen that the senthetit takes longer to burn off than normal oil. so swich and see what happens. thats my advise. good luck dude!

turbo is used and questionable.
I noticed when coasting downhill at about 2800 in 2nd a constant cloud of smoke behind me.
I did a "test" that someone on the forum suggested where I held the car at ~4000 rpm with no load for about 60 seconds... didn't get any smoke. none at all, not even a tiny little bit.
