Smog Tricks
Ok, i need to know all your dirty little tricks to get your rx7 to pass, new plugs? denatured alcohol?, Bribes? What chains do you have the most success bribing? how do you go about brining it up? shear luck? anything at all that could be relative.

First off, start by changing the halogen fluid. Then balance your connecting rods, and you should be set to go.
Seriously though, I heard of people using methyl hydrate. Adjust all your sensors (Tps, idle fuel mixture screw, whatnot). Change your air filter, oil, plugs, etc. fuel injection cleaner... i highly reccomend marvel mystery oil. umm what else... pull up ecu error codes, see if anything isnt working properly.
And best of all, GOOD FRIGGIN LUCK!!!

HERE'S A good way to pass... get a NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER with air pipe... reroute your SPLIT AIR HOSE to go direct to your air pump... set everything back right... TPS...AAS... variable resitor(what not)... you should pass with excellent numbers... ooh yeah if you don't wanna go direct air pump... get a good ACV... clean the intake runners free of gunk and carbon... make sure your rats nest work... the dirty trick is to
1. have only 1/4 tank of gas
2. stick in 1 gallon of methyl hydrate
3. your car will run quite shitty but will run clean, dont go high revving it
4. go to emmisions
5. 70%+ pass
8. go fill her up with gas
I did exactly listed and passed with flying colors. I failed previously with
HC-1200ppm
CO-839ppm
then passed with
HC-18ppm
CO-29ppm
this **** works wonders.. but can be kinda hard on your engine...

Exhaust dump.
reroute the exhaust to come out someplace else. I some how passed my car with this exhaust leak i have, usually, they can tell if you have a leak. Maybe the rotary is just magic and they cant tell!
i passed emissions so fast they didnt even give me the full test. But i did only have about 55,000 miles on the clock, and i did put in 92 octane since it contains less gas.
i talked to a guy that failed with the same mileage on his car of the same year. He said he replaced the cats and the problem was fixed.
my bro failed his 89' Firebird Formula. After that, he got a new high flow single cat and passed without the full test. He car is much louder with the new cat too.

well i had my car fail, but i had just driven it right there and did the test. when i went the second time, i just changed the oil, and went out and ran it super hot to get eh cats good and hot, passed no problems.

The best way to pass is pull your engine and stick it in a 73 or earlier Mazda. Guaranteed to pass! Really though, it's soo hard to find a place to pass you these days, go into the west coast forum, I think there are guys there that you can pm for a "friendly" shop.

Hehe... in Ontario there is a provision for "Hot Rods". If get an official to state that your engine is not the stock engine for that year and model car, you don't have to take emmisions!!
My engine qualifies, since its 99% different!!!
No more emmisions ever!!! HAHAHAHA!!!
But ya, about the best way to pass is to make sure everything is clean, dump in some methyl hydrate, and run the air pimp directly to the cat (dilutes the exhaust like crazy)
ALso, leaning it out is good. I drilled a small hole in my intake after the AFM, just enough to lean it out a big. Passed no prob them filled in the hole!

I'm jumping on this one, folks.
Two years ago, I was driving my FC with an inspection sticker (Texas) that was over 4 years expired (August 97 -- how lovely). Since it was beginning to drive me nuts having to dodge cops everyday and not get to actually enjoy my FC, I decided to tackle it the legal way (atleast in this state) and get me a new sticker. At the time, I was running a straight 3" pipe, no factory airpump (turbo is in the way), and no emissions (EGR, ACV blocked off). I was basically screwed. What I did was buy a 3-way catalytic convertor from Summit Racing for a 5.7L V8. I tested that one alone without any fresh-air induction to see if it would pass. The results of that:

Then, after researching more into this stuff, I went to the Chevrolet dealership and purchased an electric smog pump for a '97 Corvette LS1 (they use this pump for the first 2 or 3 minutes of operation to warm the catalytic convertor up for pre-operating temp emissions) and mounted it inbetween the firewall and the passenger side strut tower.

Then, I plumbed the OUT line through the stock convertor's 1-way check valve and then straight into the cat. I wired the pump up through the Haltech E6K's PWM options setup (used one of the outputs) designated as a Dual Intake Valve -- it would run the pump between a given pair of RPM ranges I chose -- 600rpm (for the idle test) through to 3800rpm (prior to hard on the throttle so it'd shut off). Here's the results of that:

Yes, even with an aftermarket EFI system and no stock emissions equipment, you too can have a cleaner running car than anything else on the road. Check out those numbers!

if all you need is new tabs (washington state) you can just go and tell them the car doesn't run so you can't get emmissions tested, but you still need the tabs so your car doesn't get towed (vehicles without proper tabs on public property or in apartment complexes can be towed)

Na, i need tabs to drive it around. That was good to know BDC but i dont have a standalone or the cash for a new cat. I think im gonna go with the hyrate trick, combined with the direct cat trick, leaning it out a tad and lots of good luck charms

I used to work at a smog station and the first thing the employees did before smogging their cars was CHANGING THE OIL. even do it twice in say a weeks time if you haven't change it much. Just make sure that you have a good cat and a clean motor.
That will do it!
