Oh dear...
Fuel pumps don't often fail like this. They either work, are intermittant, or don't work.
Ports yes, fuel pressure no. At least it is very unlikely there is a fuel pressure problem.
In general horsepower goes up by RPM in every engine. Horsepower = (Torque * RPM)/5252
Maybe instead of telling people to randomly rebuild their perfectly good engines, you could suggest looking at compression as a way to judge the condition of the engine? Just because it has 120K miles on it does not mean it's at the end of it's life.
As for the original post, you are shifting WAY too low. 3-4K is for cruising. If you want to move around a little quicker, shift like you mean it.
And as suggested, a full tuneup certainly could not hurt as well as a test of the aux ports.

but really, you probably need to rebuild that tired engine.

the buzzer that comes on at redline: thats when you shift
its actually good for a rotary to redline it every so often: it burns off carbon
and people: stop being so harsh on him, if you tell a V8 owner that you always shift above redline, theyre like "thats terrible for your engine" so its really not surpising that someone doesnt know

when my car was auto i would feel when the 5/6th port would kick in. I dont know if my ports are opening anymore, i dont feel that jump like i used to.
How can i test them to see if there working properly. The car feels sluggish now.
Its a 87 gxl.
