You're shifting 1/2 way between idle and redline and you're wondering why you got beat?

Sell... your... car... and... buy... a... tricycle.

Fuel pumps don't often fail like this. They either work, are intermittant, or don't work.

Ports yes, fuel pressure no. At least it is very unlikely there is a fuel pressure problem.

In general horsepower goes up by RPM in every engine. Horsepower = (Torque * RPM)/5252

but really, you probably need to rebuild that tired engine.
Maybe instead of telling people to randomly rebuild their perfectly good engines, you could suggest looking at compression as a way to judge the condition of the engine? Just because it has 120K miles on it does not mean it's at the end of it's life.

As for the original post, you are shifting WAY too low. 3-4K is for cruising. If you want to move around a little quicker, shift like you mean it.

And as suggested, a full tuneup certainly could not hurt as well as a test of the aux ports.

Sorry, to ask, but im serious. Did a woman teach you to drive. I myself had girls ask me why they lost to slower cars and they always shifted to early.

When I wanna kick butt I realize that my car isn't made for going in a straight line quickly. Take it to the track, get that **** in some twisties, and make their car look stupid by getting owned by a 146hp 1.3L beast.

Straight line = "No replacement for displacement"

the buzzer that comes on at redline: thats when you shift

its actually good for a rotary to redline it every so often: it burns off carbon

and people: stop being so harsh on him, if you tell a V8 owner that you always shift above redline, theyre like "thats terrible for your engine" so its really not surpising that someone doesnt know

Well there is a big difference between shifting a 7-8k rpm redline car at 4k and even shifting just before redline. You dont have to shift at the buzzer to do alot better than short shifting at 4k.

110psi compression on both rotors on *MY* engine. Don't be such a pessimist, rotaries can last long, too

Even V8 owners know that if they want the best performance out of their engine, they need to stretch its legs. Yeah, don't go above redline, but then again, no reason to on our cars either. The redline is there for a reason... to tell you when to shift/protect you from blowing the engine by revving to high.

when my car was auto i would feel when the 5/6th port would kick in. I dont know if my ports are opening anymore, i dont feel that jump like i used to.

How can i test them to see if there working properly. The car feels sluggish now.

Its a 87 gxl.

Put grease on the actuators and go for a drive. When you get back, see if the grease moved.

So i put grease on the rods that push the actuators in and out.

Any specific type of grease?
