size for rear speaker on our FC
#7
I have an 89 GTU, I would've loved to put 8" mid/bass in the rear but there was no way in hell that would've fit in mine. I bought 6.5" Alpines and THEY didn't fit. I had to custom fabricate a wooden mount for them.

All those places will tell you. Sometimes it helps to search the INTERNET too... Not just the site...
According to Crutchfield.com the only size that will fit in MY car, 1986 GXL, is a 4" speaker.
You COULD also always take out the old speaker and check the old fashioned way... With a ruler...

I have 8's in mine. Each speaker is a 125watt Kenwood three way. I believe you call it a mid bass, I'm not good with speaker terms. The guy said these rock and he proved it, I bought them. I don't have the stock speaker cover over them cause they won't fit. I had to amp them too. But ya, I believe its 5 1/4 in the front, either 5 1/4 or 6in in the doors and 6in in the rear and 2 500watt 12in subs in the rear... JK, thats not stock lol

Haha alright, I think I'll give credit where credit's due, I didn't realize the mount would be so popular.
My dad's a construction GOD, he's been doing it since he was 20. (he's 48 now.)
He did most of the fabrication on these, I just tinkered around, took measurements and came up with the concept. I guess I'll do a write-up on it, that much I can handle, but I'll have to ask him if he'd be willing to put together a couple more carzarkoo. I'll get back to you on it, I think he'd be willing to do it pretty cheaply if it doesn't interfere with some other job he has.
By the way, my dad's amazing with corian construction, contact me if you have a remodel you'd like to have done under the table ;]
(kitchen, bathroom, anywhere you have a counter!)

The 8's in my rear shock towers fit great... I put in some rubber mounts to cut out the vibrations but they sound great. 6.5's in the front doors but I'm also trying to get some 4's in the dash(i just can't figure out the factory wiring)... I have 4 tweeters in the car too.
Can anyone point out to me how the wiring on the crossover/built in amps runs in these cars... I bought the ride second hand and it seems like all the audio wires have been cut & re-wired

I don't get it... Why wouldn't have the 8in fit if you had to fabricate a wooden mount for the 6.5's?

All that and I'm only running 1 amp... a 4 way that is really small cause its one of those new digital amps... the head unit is pretty strong so I have it running the 4's and the tweeters.
CAr would sound alot better if I could get out some of the rattles and squeks... but it is 20 years old.
Silly me I take everything off of the car(front and rear wipers, power antenna, seat belt motors) all to save weight and probly put it all back in with the stereo unit
