No.
All the ones I know of at over $5,000 easy.
If you find one cheap and easy to install, be sure to tell the rest of us!

you can do a custom job with a supra gear box but changing the bolt pattern on the front and back of the box... or the same with a miata gear box... other then that dont waste your time or money...

I think HKS makes one that bolts right up but unfortunately the don't sell them here, only in Japan. Also I think they are like $7000 to $10,000 over there.I think Soul Assasin has one on his car ,but he lives in Japan.

Hey DereK,
How much work would you have to do with either of those tranny's?

If spending that money, why not just bump it up to a seven speed? Are these things even attainable?

If you have money... I'm doing a T56 in the fall when I have money. Did you have any plans?

Does the 6speed from the Miata work. Seems like I heard it would bolt up. Not sure about the torque capacity though. The super tall, wide ratios of a T56 won't do you any good. If you want to do some fab work you can get custom Richmond boxes from Summit for around $3k.

Tell me the last time a 500 RWHP used 1st gear effectively? This will be a swap well worth while, IMO.

Hey scathcart, how are you doing the T56 swap?
I was looking in to it a while back to bolt it up to the rotary.
I found that the Chevy aftermarket T56 have the same bolt pattern as the T5's do, and someone makes an adapter kit for the T5's. Is that how your doing it, or are you fabricating everything by yourself?
Let me know how it goes, because I am very interested!
Thanks

I Had planned on welding it myself (crossmember will be welded on my own indefinitely.), but if there is an adapter I will definitely use it.
Got any links?

So far as I can tell, the BW T56 does not bolt up. Of course, the Chevy T56 does not, nor does the Tremec T56.
The T56 has a different bolt pattern to it.
Where did you hear this?

I also learned the bW makes a T56 with a 3.36 fiorst gear ratio.
That's pretty damn close to stock, and capable of 400 lb.ft of torque!!
That's a beefy Tranny.

Anyone know if the T5 bellhousing bolts to the T56?

yeah we need a 6 speed, on the highway it sucks to cruise over 90-110 cause the tach is over 4k, and who wants to let it maintain at 4.5k for a long time.
it sucks

Holy ****, if the BW T56 has the same bolt pattern as a T5, this will be easy and cheap as hell.

$3000
Of course, I just wanted the extra speeds for the steeper first gear and the smaller changes in overdrive for those top speed run.
For those who wanted to lower there gear ratio on the freeway,

Borg Warner T56(a) 2.66 1.78 1.30 1.00 0.74 0.50
Borg Warner T56(b) 2.97 2.07 1.43 1.00 0.80 0.62
Borg Warner T56(c) 3.36 2.07 1.35 1.00 0.80 0.62

The (a) version would give the lowest gear ratio at that speed, but slower MUCH slower acceleration 1st, second, and third.

I dunno whether to go b or c for mine. (c) has the tranny with the closest to stock gear ratios, but (b) would offer the best acceleration in third.

I will have to wait and see my Dyno charts....

Of course, then there are the Tremec T56's...
2.66 1.78 1.30 1.00 .74 .50
2.66 1.78 1.30 1.00 .80 .62
2.97 2.07 1.43 1.00 .80 .62

But if the BW bolts right up with the adapter plate... WOW! That is EASY.

Are the bellhousings the same on NA and TII tranny's?

The RX8 has a 6 speed and will bolt straight to an REW engine

But I don't have an REW engine, it'll be a while before there are enough totalled RX8's for a tranny to be cheap enough to buy, and we have no idea what the gear ratios on it look right now.
I'll stick to a BW T56 for now....

My friend was running the BW T56's through a test on "Cartest" with a '73 Firebird. He found that if you take the first 4 gears outa (c) and the last two outa (a) you would get the best acceleration AND the best gas mileage! And Im sure, being a domestic performance thing, that you "should" be able to interchance gear ratios on it. And now that would just be saaaahhweeeeeeeeet!!

http://www.kennedyeng.com/other.htm <-- Thats the page that I found the adapter kit for the T5 on, but he didnt know anything aboot T56's. Kit #9900 and its $300.00
This is what the guys at Kennedy wrote me:
"Two different size clutches are used by Mazda. Stock Ford discs are available to fit. We provide a new pilot bushing, the Ford clutch release bearing is not changed. The trans sits on an angle so the shifter lever must be bent. A new speed-o-cable will probably be needed, and the crossmember must be modified." Sounds easy enough huh?

And this is what the camaro performance mechanic guys told me:
"The aftermarket version of the T-56 for Chevy applications uses the same bellhousing pattern and clutch style as the T-5 does, which would allow you to use the Kennedy T-5 adapter with that version of the T-56"

There was a thread I did on the whole thing, I dont remember if its still around of not. It think it was like "6 speed tranny" or something like that, I dunno...

Scathcart, if you do this swap, you HAVE to let me know how it works out! I want to do it, but I dont have the time, space or money right now to do it

Thats all for now folks

oo and it uses the stock 13b bellhousing too, dunno if yah knew that, probably did tho

And a T56 costs anywhere from $2500-3500, from what I could find... But you MIGHT be able to get one out of a wrecked camaro if your lucky!

now THATS all!

I know where you can find lots of BW T56's. It seems as is all the camaro guys around here are swapping out their T56's for TH350's, so there just happens to be a surplus around here. If anyone is looking let me know, I can find you one.

They only want to go in a straight line. And they want to be able to launch without hassles.

Sorry, dude, but you don't need to run a test to figure that out.

The best system would use the 1st and second from (c), 3rd gear from (b), and the last 4 gears from (a), and a 5th gear from either (b) or (c). This would give the best acceleration through the first 5 gears of the system, and the best fuel economy in 6th.

And I will let you know how it turns out.
