Single or dual exhaust?......

O.K. What's up with all these single exhaust(muffler) cars?, are there any advantages besides the weight loss and the money saved?, I have a TII and I thought you would want to get your exhaust out as fast as possible. What is the reasoning behind this?

if you've got a TurboII I REALLY don't see a reason to go dual exhaust. It's already collected in one pipe, why split it?

The only reason I ever see for going dual exhaust is if it's a TRUE dual exhaust, that is, each rotor has its own exhaust all the way back.

acutally, with a single exit the exhaust is going to flow in the most defined path. With it dual out there is a chance of it slowing as it reaches the split, majority of the gas will flow in the path of least resistance (straight though) will some will slow in the second pipe there for mostly negating any added flow.

Wrong, the Y is symmetrical, so the flow is evenly divided.
A properly built Y cause less pressure drop than most people think, and this is balanced by the fact that with the correct pipe sizes, two smaller pipes will cause less pressure drop than one big pipe. e.g. with the same flow, two 2.5” pipes have quite a bit less pressure drop than one 3”, but two 2.25” pipes have a bit more.

From what I hear, you get more horsepower out of the single, but on the second, I like the look of the dual better.

I also like the stock dual look. I'm getting my exhaust worked on soon and I figured i'd ask about the single exhaust before I commited on anything. Does anybody know if Racing Beat makes different size downpipes(2.5-3")?, I have a used DP on, but I never bothered to measure it before having it installed, and I'm to lazy right now to get under and find out.

Easier to add a turn down and secondary muffler with a single..

That's my reason anyway

Which setup will produce the most Hp and torque on an NA? A true-dual (Header, presilencers, mufflers) or a single outlet exhaust(header, presilencer, muffler)?
