side moldings - to paint or not to paint

I have an 86 that has the black molding around the body. What is the best way to remove it and then what is the best way to re-install it? Has anybody tried just leaving it off after a new paint job or should I just leave it on and paint over it. I definitely have to remove it to get a little rust on the pass side door.

thanks

Ya, most of the pieces are held on by steel clips that fit in square holes. If you left them off, you'd have the holes to patch. I'd re-paint them.

If you're not going to flush them out (like I did), definately paint it.. I don't think they'd look to bad, except for the fact that yours are probably faded and half-grey looking like mine were. If they were nice and shiney black, I probably would have considered leaving them on.. Okay, no i wouldn't.. but I don't think they look bad on light-colored cars.

Paint it!
