Should Turbo a Convertible?

I am thinking of restoring my RX7 convertible and body with turbo added at the cost of $10,000 Canadian. Do you guys suggest I do this since my goal would be to sell it between 15,000 to 20,000 Cnd? How popular would this be and is it a good idea to make money; investment.

Never seen a convertible sell for close to that much. Don't know if turbo'ing it would make it worth more or less. Guess it depends who looks at it. I honestly wouldn't think it a worthwhile investment however, unless you're keeping it for yourself.

Agree, never seen a convertible sell even close to that. The only reason to add the turbo is if you want it for yourself. Don't think you'd ever make a profit on the investment.

You will NEVER make money modifying an RX-7, or any other common-as-mud, non-collectible car. NEVER.

let me put it this way, i paid 3700 for mine with 91K original and this thing was WELL taken care of, ive had minimal problems, no more than to be expected and i drive my car hrad sometimes. Some think i over paid, i personally think i underpaid, but i guess its because i know how nice it drives compared to alot of warn out sevens that need alot of work. But the key here is, I PAID 3700 for a perfect running seven, dont expect to get more than about 6-7grand for a 10K investment, and thats being quite generous

You guys should come to the Twin Cities area of MN and sell your 'verts. Around here they go for anywhere between $6k-8k depending on how long the seller is willing to wait, it's retarded.

Coupes are the same way, but not as valuable. I've had people ask me if I was ever going to sell mine and I've always said something along the lines of "yeah, I'd probably give someone a deal at $4,000" and thier little eyes get bright and shiny like I'm a really nice guy or something.

All I have to do is drive ~four hours in any direction and can pay less then half that (which I did with my GXL) :waffles:

your first problem is that your obviously trying to make a quick buck.
unfortunatly you can have a gold plated rx7 for all anyone cares, and it will still be as worthless as stock.
so, you can probably sell a good condition Stock convertable for let's say 10k, so you turbo it.. what are you going to get? probaly 11k.. ok obviously I'm pulling these numbers out of my ***, but just try to get what I'm saying.

btw.. what the hell does "should Turbo a Convertable" mean?

I plan on doing the turbo swap to my vert next winter. Already have the TII donor car. Have the TII engine out and saving for rebuild this summer. I don't think for the general public that it raises the value of the car much. You would have to find a buyer that would appreciate the work and money involved and is willing (and capable) to pay more than blue book. You may want to check out the Rotary Resurrection web site. http://rotaryresurrection.com/

He has a great write up on the turbo swap and what it would cost for him to do it.

Like tournapart, I paid $3200 for my 88 vert and it's perfect. Well maintained and everything working great, 120K. No, I'm not driving it to the twin cities to sell. It will stay in my garage for a few more years without the turbo.

^Sometimes you can get lucky and find one for a good deal and make some cash off of it. For instance, bought a 86 S4 with bad motor for $500. Rebuilt motor for $1200. Sold for $3500.
