Should I get this inexpensive clutch kit for my TII?
Being Xmas and all, and majorly short on CASH plus having a car with an almost done clutch, I am looking for a cheap clutch to get by till summer at least....
I came across a FENCO clutch, but many people said it was crap and one guy said it was alright.
Now I found another sorta cheap one, way more then the FENCO but way cheaper then the stock clutch. Its a DAIKIN CLUTCH made by Exedy. I think that's some Japanese made clutch. Anyone know if this is good or actually using this clutch? The only thing that concerns me is that on the box there is a disclaimer that says that THIS CLUTCH IS NOT INTENDED FOR RACING or HIGH PERFORMANCE APPLICATIONS. Isn't the case with ANY STOCK OEM CLUTCH? Cause I have an OEM mazda clutch in right, and I raced the car the whole summer with no problems.

They have the 87-88 TII complete OEM clutch kit for $273.36. That is everything involved with the clutch and it is OEM so you know it is good quality. So far I have not seen too many Mazda parts that were not made well. You figured some of us have gone since the car was new and are still using original parts
"Genuine Mazda Clutch Kit 87-88 Turbo.
Kit consists of pressure plate, disc, release collar, pilot bearing and pilot bearing seal."

let me tell you what worked for me. i've got an 87 t2, and the clutch was slipping like crazy. i replaced the clutch disc with the three puck disc that mazdatrix sells, and left in the same old stock pressure plate. i've got about 20,000 miles on it now and everything is holding together just fine.

I have a fenco clutch in my car, and I used one on my cousins old t2, they are alright. We don't take our cars racing or anything, I've had mine in for two years now.
I did find though that when the clutch was newer it was no big deal to grab rubber into second, now its harder that the clutch is older.
Being in vancouver there isn't alot of choices. Lordco sells the fenco's, they can also get Luk clutches, they are supposed to be pretty good. Of course there is always centerforce, but unless you want the ceramic(?) disc that comes with the dual friction kit I don't know if its worth the money for just a preasure plate. All the I and II kits are ONLY the preasure plate.
If you really want to go cheap, what you can do is just replace the disc, it will cost only about $100 or less. Just make sure that your preasure plate isn't too worn(where throwout bearing rides), blued from heat or scored and you should be ok.
