Short in the harness

hi Everyone - I've been working on a no start issue for a couple of weeks now and I think I've narrowed it down to the harness/wiring. I've replaced the starter and have a fresh battery. I don't get a full 12V on the solenoid line when the clutch is in and ignition turned on. It may be the clutch interlock switch, which I am in the process of removing but I think I have a ground problem.

The line that goes to the solenoid seems to be shorted to ground (continuity test confirmed). I've disconnected the interlock switch and line going to the solenoid seems to be grounded still.

Has anyone seen this before? Seems like there is a fault between the solenoid and the clutch switch.

As first step, I would check the starter cut relay, which is located on the left fender by the clutch master cylinder and the clutch interlock switch, which is located at the bottom of the clutch pedal near the firewall. Actually, you can use jumper wires to bypass both the relay and clutch switch. If problem then persists, than you can move on to next step in the troubleshooting process.

@Hot_Dog thanks for the quick reply. Forgot to mention that I have installed a new starter, starter relay kit, and bypassed the starter relay. All from banzai racing.

In addition to the cut switch and relay. If you're not getting the full 12v at the starter solenoid, than the problem is usually a loose or corroded connection. Make sure all you connections are clean and tight. I recall one post where the guy had a corroded crimp for the 1/4" spade connector that connects to the starter solenoid. The wire, where it was crimped to the 1/4" spade, was corroded and not conducting. Check your 1/4" spade connector at the starter.

Thanks. Was chatting with Chris at Banzai Racing. Will be checking all the fuses but all indications lead to a ground fault somewhere in the harness or ignition switch.

Yeah, I was going to mention about checking and/or replacing the ignition switch harness, too. Good luck!
