Suggestion

Or you can buy youselves a straight cut (dog teeth) gear box and shift with out clutch all day long with out any worries what's so ever

You have no clue what a modern syncrhomesh transmission works.

Before synchromesh transmission were invented, people drove without synchros.&nbsp They required rev matching and double-clutching which would match the upshift gear speed and RPM's for a smooth shift.&nbsp You try powershifting one of these non-synchro gearboxes, and it'll award you with a nice gear crunch.

Synchronizers were invented to eliminate the rev matching.&nbsp What it does is slowly engage the gear by (most common) sliding cones.&nbsp These things are usually made of bronze and do wear out.&nbsp You try to overpower these things, and they can explode into a bazillion pieces.

By powershifting (not lifting the gas), you're doing two things - you're putting serious stress on these synchronizers, and you're putting serious stress on the clutch disc.&nbsp "think about it" - the RPMs to gear change speed is totally WRONG - what has to give for the transmission to slip?&nbsp Either the synchro or the clutch disc...

The transmission are not designed to be "powershifted" - you're putting undue stress on them by "powershifting".

isnt powershifting a shitty way of double clutching? I was always told that double clutching is a faster way to shift, and ive done it a million times but it seems slow as *****. Whenever ive done it, i push in the clutch, put it in neutral, let the clutch out, rev the engine to match speeds, and then throw it into gear. It has always worked smoothly for me like that. But I thought that was actually a better way to shift if you knew how to do it right?

No, it's not even close.&nbsp I've heard of two versions of powershifing.&nbsp One is the don't lift the gas pedal - just push clutch in, shift, pop clutch out - all with the foot on the gas pedal.&nbsp The other way is to not use the clutch pedal at all...

Double clutching was required of non-synchro transmission for smoother shifting; this also save wear&tear on synchonizers, if you want to try it.&nbsp Power shifting is totally opposite of that...

ok i see now. yeah that is kind of gay. I always wondered because whenever i double clutched , i would never need to use the clutch the second time to go into gear. And it was always a very very smooth shift, like it was an automatic transimission almost

Power shifting, probably helps break some differential mounts too. They are not to fun to replace either...

There is no such thing as doing it "right" - when upshifting, the rev match to previous gear is always going to be lower on the RPM scale.&nbsp Explain to me how do you rev-match the engine with the transmission if you don't lift on the gas pedal???&nbsp Last time I checked, leaving your foot on the gas pedal and popping the clutch will cause the engine revs to INCREASE, not decrease.&nbsp So explain to me how having the engine revs always INCREASING in this sitaution be able to rev match for the upshift if you need to DECREASE the revs.

Please people, "power shifting" is hard on the transmission and the synchros.&nbsp It's an idiotic thing to do to a modern synchromesh transmission just to win a race.&nbsp This causes unnecessary wear and tear on your drivetrain just because you want to win a race.&nbsp Don't be complaining you blew up your transmission messing around with power shifting.&nbsp If you happen to misshift trying to do this, you're going to almost guarantee kill the synchro in the next gear or even take out the gear itself.

If you wanna be like TheBigOne and nitroracer and take the chance on ruining your transmission, go right ahead; I can only give you my opinion on why this is not recommended.&nbsp Just be aware of the consequences - remembers, there is nothing free about performance and going faster.

yeah i agree it is bad for your tranny.

BUT FOR THE SAKE OF DISCUSSIN I WAS MERELY IMPLYING EXACTLY WHAT I SAID.

I dont do it and I dont recommened any one else to do it.

Somehow my sisters boyfriends in his 2001 couger blew a hole in is tranmission doing this. Luckly he is still under war. so they fixed it for like 50 bucks. But he doesn't do that anymore. I've had like 5 friends having to rebuild their trans b/c or "powershifting". Everything from rustangs to a del slow.

If you really want to “powershift”, you need one of these:

T-Sport Flat Shift

This one’s not available yet, but there are others out there.

power in high rpm

**** SPAM REMOVED BY MANAGEMENT ****

You may also need to investigate to make sure that your 6 port is opening up fully.

Please don't come here peddling that crap. If you have some useful info to add to this thread about changing gears, by all means contribute. Otherwise take it elsewhere.
