Angry Shift Problems

Ok. My 87 T2 wont shift into 5th or reverse... Its like there is something blocking the whole right side of the shifter. I brought it in to the mechanic and supposedly he fixed it for a price of $125 including the "upper shift plate" (wtf is that?). It worked fine for about a week and now it is doing it again. Help???

Is there any slop in the lever?
If so it needs bushings.

Also there is a spring & plunger pressing against the selector to keep you from accidently hitting 5-R.
It may be installed wrong on not lubed.

I wish I knew.
I fabricated one from a CPVC thread ell.
The ID just fit the ball on the lever.
Cut, grind, file - presto!

Yeah go to mazdatrix... if you go to the dealership they'll give you the upper bushings and deny that there is such a thing as the lower bushing.

It's like 22 bucks shipped to get both upper and lower bushings, install is easy, if not a bit messy.
