Question Shift ****??

I have a 1987 TII and I cant turn the shoft **** off to replace it, is it all 1 unit or what?? Is there no way to get the just the **** off?? I've only had it for like a week so I'm new to the car . Thx 4 n e help fella's.

well. first you have to pull off the plastic piece that holds the leather in place. Just pry it up with a flathead screwdriver, its secured by some spring clips, and pops in just as easy again.

Pull the piece with the leather boot over the shifter *** and there should be a ring just underneath the shifter *** and the leather boot that holds the leather in place to the ****.. this also holds the **** in place. Twist this sucker off (usually secured by a screw in the ring itself) and then it should twist downwards away from the **** a little. From here there are two screws (on my momo this is how it is) that hold the **** onto the threads of the shift bar, loosen them and the **** should come straight off.

If it's the stock ****, there are 2 pieces. The **** itself, and a chrome locking nut below it. You put a wrench on the flat spots on the locking nut and turn it clockwise while turning the **** counterclockwise. That's all there is to it.
