Self reving!

The car is a 1990 Convertible. It runs good, nothing known to be wrong, just smokes some on start up...

Anyways, once the car warms up to running tempeture, and if it is in neutral/park (the car is an automatic), then engines RPM's will jump from 1200-1500 RPM's. But when it is in any gear, it won't do it, and it has a near perfect idle. It will usually sit about either 750 RPM's or 1000 RPM's.

Also when you get out of the car, and it is in park/neutral doing the damn reving thingy.... And you hold the TPS in, it will stop reving! But it still have a 1500 RPM idle. And I've had one other RX-7 do this, and we adjusted the TPS many times, and it never helped ****! Also that car was an S4 NA, with a manual tranny.

Anyways, has anyone ever had this problem, and fixed it? It's really annoying! Makes my car sound really junky

Anyways, anyone ever fixed this? Or have any idea what it is?

How long have you let it warm up? I know when I used to have an automatic it would stay like that for atleast 5-10 mins on colder days.

I can go for a 20 minute+ drive, and if you stop, and put it in park/neutral, it will just start doing it again. As long as it is in gear, it will idle at 750 RPM's when stopped, and it won't jump up and down like that. But as soon as you pull it out of gear, it starts doing it again.

And it doesn't do it when cold.... Only when warm.

just throwing out a guess here, but could it be the tranny? I had a 1995 Galant do the same thing once.... then I slammed it into a poll and it stopped do that... it also went to a junkyard.

I'm not going to go that extreme to fix it

I kind of like driving the car

Anyways, I think it may be a tranny sensor, but I'm not sure, and I don't know which one to suspect....

You want to search for "idle surging" or "surging." This has been discussed many times before. It can be anything from your BAC valve, sticky throttle body not being fully closed, vacuum leak, etc..

EGR
vac leak
various other emissions crap
