seized motor

i just built an engine- it ran great for almost 500 miles. i drove over 100 miles today on the freeway, with multiple short trips after that. car never overheated or acted strange at all. i went to leave and the motor fired immediately and ran perfectly at warmup idle-perfect afr's. as i went to pull away it drove for a second and then stalled instantly. there was no grind scrape or bang. i thought it was strange and when i went to restart it wouldn't turn over at all. i put the wrench on the eccentric shaft bolt and tried to turn it without success. the oil pan is full and the omp is fine. however, and i know this is the stupidest thing i couldve done, the oil pressure guage doesn't work. so i haven't been able to tell what the oil pressure is since i started driving it. if there was no oil pressure could the motor have survived for 500 miles and not been running hot? i know there could be many different problems anyone have any ideas. thanks, josh

if there was zero oil pressure you wouldnt go 500 miles with out heating up. sounds like it time to pull the motor apart.

id say pull ur tranny out first before the engine, see if the engine can turn over without the tranny. Like my bud has had his car run fine and one day it wouldnt turn over. Turns out his slave cyl bolts were jamming the flywheel

I swear to god this exact same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. 20 mile drive, no problems, no overheating, full of oil, antifreeze, etc. Parked it, went in to a store, and came back out. I started the car, put it in 1st, drove 10 feet and the motor DIED. E-shaft was locked. Weird thing is... my oil pressure sensor doesn't work either, so I can't tell you if that was the culprit. I have yet to pull my motor apart though, I just picked up another one cheap.

Did you let the Torrington bearing drop during installation?

Pull the oil filter and cut it in half. Check for metal.

just like hazard 15301 described. i took off the starter and can move the engine with a prybar on the ring gear. it wont budge if i try to just move the pulleys. if i built it wrong- to tight etc. why would it run fine and then just seize up? is the motor too new for carbon lock? could a side piece have come loose?

Can you also move your flywheel like 1/8th of a turn, but the front pulley won't budge?

yes. it will move forwards and backwards as muchas i want with a prybar on the ring gear. i can't get it to budge with a wrench on the e shaft bolt.

is the torrington bearing on the front? i was careful with those. is it the one that is towards the rotor or the one the counterweight rides on?

i think if they were installed wrong the motor wouldn't have ran well for as long as it did

Not really... It's guaranteed to be a rebuild.

Well I can't say that for sure, because I haven't pulled mine apart yet. But I would prepare for the worst if I was you... Oh wait.. I was, about 3 weeks ago...

Stop trying to come up with questions and forms of questions to get someone to say: No, you can figure this out without figuring it out!

Face it honey, the only way you're going to *KNOW* what happened is to pull the motor apart. You can't guess and be sure. Even if you *did* guess right, the only way you're fixing it is by pulling it apart and rebuilding it the right way.
