Security mods

I had read the recent accounts of RX7 thefts and breakins, and found the ease of theft disturbing. It gets even more disturbing when you realize what happens to cars that are stolen.

One of the mods I've been thinking about for my RX7 is a customized electrical system (essentally, rip out the factory wiring and start from scratch). Among the security features would be all black wires for the sensors, etc, and a keyless ignition system. Could the keyed ignition/column lock be replaced with a electrically-trigged steering wheel lock?

Instead of a key, you'd have a transponder and start/stop button, which in turn cycles relays, controlled by a microcontroller, that start/stop the car.

Most breakins are by vandals or junkies. There is no way to stop a window from being smashed (other than replacing all of the glass with plexi or lexan).
Most car alarms with starter kill will stop the joy riders. Nothing will stop a professional. If they can;t start it they will come back an tow it if they want the car.

Instead of going through all of that, I would get a good alarm and make the car less desireable for theives and vandals.

There is no substitute for a GOOD alarm. $99 best buy specials wont cut it.
