Seat Belt Recall - Canada
Does anyone know if the auto - seat belt recall applies in Canada? I own a 91 non-turbo, and it is a U.S. car that was registered in Canada by the previous owner.
After my first conversation with the local dealership in Vancouver, I can tell already that they will try to wiggle there way out of fixing the seatbelt for free.
I will call Mazda Canada on monday, but maybe someone can share there experience?

Far as I know, it applies to Canada as well. They have no choice but to perform the service. If they give you crap, call Mazda Custmer Service.
Also, take pictures of the interior first, so you can make sure to have them replace all the trim they will break.

I'm not sure - but I do remember reading that if you import a car from the US to Canada, all of the recall work has to be performed prior to importing the car. That means that the seatbelts would already be fixed. Doesn't Mazda USA store that info?
Again, I could be mistaken, but might be worth looking into!

Even though a Mazda dealer is certified, they (the dealer) doesn't actually do it for free. They get the money from Mazda in Japan or their US branch or wherever when they document the repair. Most places try and get out of the work cuz nobody wants to work on a 15yo+ car and not be able to charge extra money for their slow *** work... since they all bill by the labor hour as well as for over priced p.o.s. parts.

Update:
Called Mazda Canada - Cannot pull VIN # of my car up, so they say call Mazda US.
Call Mazda US, their 1800 # wont let me connect cause Im calling from Canada. Call long distance #, get through to a rep and they confirm that it is a 'lifetime warranty' regardless of if Im in Canada now.
Call local dealership.... "huh?".... Wont budge unless I can quote the recall #.... Call US Mazda back get the recall #.. Local dealership then says they'll look into it - may take a while... What kind of service is that???!!!
Anyways, Im sure theyll have no choice in the end. Fix it!!!
PS... Before I knew it was warrantied I attemped to fix the cable myself which probably made things worse... will this change anything?

Update - Case Closed
OK happy ending here.
It took almost 2 MONTHS for the dealership in Canada to order the appropriate parts. However, work was done very well, they replaced both doors and even washed my car
So the answer to the original question for all Canadians, is YES the warranty still applies to US cars that are brought on up to Canada.
