Is it safe to start a car on jack stands?

I owe my apt mgr 360 bucks cause I fell on my skateboard and ended up stomping on a water pipe therefore snapping it. Yeaahhh... lol so im going to sell my wheels and tires so i can pay him back. once i sell them i would have to have my car on jack stands for a good month just until i can get new wheels. so is it safe to start a car on jack stands? i would start the 7 like once a week so carbon wouldnt build up. haha

If you don't run it, it won't have any way to build up carbon.

A month isn't bad but if you want to be on the safe side, use some fogging oil.

fogging oil? last time i didnt run it for a month it was a pain trying to start it. doing the deflood procedure and putting oil in the spark plug holes is too time consuming.

Most apartment complexes don't allow cars on jack stands. You may want to run your plan by your apartment manager, because the last thing you need right now is to lose a deposit, get fined, or have the police tow your car away. Yes, they can tow it with no wheels, and yes, it will probably cost more to get it out of impound than it is worth.

I would talk to the manager to see if you could do the repairs yourself, buy the materials. it shouldnt be too hard, something you could do in a day.

But it sounds like your getting butt rapped because you wanted to skateboard. Is your car not your transportation? that is the stupidest thing Ive ever heard here. Seriously keep your wheels and find some other way to make money, visit the sperm banks, donate blood lol

I started my car on jackstands, when nearing the completion of my swap. I do not recommend it though.

If your car falls off the stands, you're going to have to sell it to pay for the asphalt that you damaged.

I started my FC after more than half a year without any special precautions or any issues I know of. Also: I consider myself as broke at the moment, but I don't have to sell crap, or worse parts essential to use my vehicle to pay for such small unforeseen expenses. Not trying to be a dick, but you might wanna get your finances in a slightly better situation before you take your FC of the stands again. Good luck,

Riz.

if you wouldn't start your car on jack stands you shouldn't crawl under it either. Use the proper jacking locations on a level surface and you're fine.

Gotta agree w/ the others, this sounds like a petty terrible idea overall. Just have them add a few bux to the least over your remaining months. Hell, worst case scenario they keep your
Security deposit to pay for it.

If he broke a pipe it needs to be fixed asap, water leaking everywheres cannot stay a day or however long it will take for him to fix it. Being an apartment landlord myself, I hate the "you got a security for that" thats bullshit. Thats why a lot of property managers get screwed. Cause ppl will damage this and that, then in the end it costs more for the repairs than the deposit, then you have to sue, which takes time and some of us don't have much of that. Then if they just up and leave with no notice, your out that months rent and security. Yea ppl that aren't landlords do not understand this.

don't leave the car on jack stands for a month. someone could tip it over. or some kids can get under it thinking it will be fun then bam. kid crushed under car. find some other way to pay for damages. like someone mentioned just tell them to add a little extra to your monthly bill.

that's bullshit and you know it and you can justify it however you want, the security deposit is there for exactly this reason!

both me and my girlfriend dealt with slumlords this last year, i got hosed out of $500 for some blinds that were "uncleanable" but were in the same exact condition as they were when i arrived and a patch of carpet although the carpet that was in there was the original carpet from 20+ years ago when the building was built and was already in ratty condition.

my girlfriend gave notice and moved out, the manager said she never recieved the 30 days notice and sent us to collections for 1+ month's rent(rent was $700 but they sent us to collections for $1k even though she cleaned the place spotless). collections is calling her at work(at the work phone number, they even have to transfer her) hassling her even though it is illegal for them to do so(she never gave them her work number). do i have to get phone records and take them to court on the reverse end? of course they won't listen to us because we have no proof that the notice was ever given because what landlord gives a reciept for notice? of course i know why they are doing it, because people are leaving this place in hoardes and they can't find renters.

i thought my landlord was cool, until she handed me $150 of my $800 deposit back. i lived there for 2 years mind you and i respected their property.

people say that renting is better than owning, i disagree because these days EVERYONE is out to hose you.. if you don't collect a deposit say that otherwise i will assume you are and sitting on their money, and it is their money still not yours!

everyplace i rented i had to do a background check, if you aren't then that's your fault. after going through my renting crap i probably won't give a damn about the place because too many managers are legally stealing money from me. if you look at it from the reverse standpoint i have better things to do also than to go to court and prove that i deserve my deposit back. whatever happened to human decency?

if her collectors get pushy wanting the money i'll make sure they lose more than the $1k they're trying to squeeze from us, companies these days are too short sighted that they are spending a dollar to get a dime. i can easily waste their time if they want to go that route(because i'm starter than they are).

end rant.

I left my FC on jackstand for 3 months (thruout the summer), there is no issue hanging the car mid-air. remember its just a piece of metal. its just that u better make sure no one will be "messing" around with it.

No need to re-post the rant Karack, but...spot on!

The Landlord, writes the contract, the landlord owns the property, the landloard takes an interest-free loan from each tennant (security deposit) to do with as they please...perhaps even to maintain the property. Not only should a tenant who leaves the property as they found it receive their deposit, technically they should receive the interest they forfieted while THEIR money was unavailable for THEIR use.

I'm pretty sure it doesn't say anywhere in your contract that you must forfeit your transportation to immediately pay for any damages. What if you haven't gotten new wheels by the time you move out? Will your landlord charge you a storage fee until the amount owed outstrips the value of your car and it becomes his?
